‘Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning’ Movie Getting US Fathom Screenings
Charge into nationwide theaters to save the Digital World!
Toei Animation and Fathom Events have announced that the United States theatrical release of Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning will be through the latter company in 750 theaters across the country. The English dub screening will be happening November 8, and the original Japanese audio, English subtitle screening is the next night, November 9. Both nights’ screenings will be at 7 PM local time. This is only a couple of weeks after the film’s Japanese release on October 27.
These screenings feature a brief introduction to the film by director Tomohisa Taguchi. He returns having directed the previous film, Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna, which wrapped up the original Digimon Adventure story. This film takes place 2 years after that. Similarly, this is considered the series finale for the 02 team, who, bar TK and Kari, who were also on the original team and thus starred, appeared in supporting roles in Last Evolution. This was after they had been notoriously sidelined in the Adventure tri. films.
The synopsis goes (with dub terms) “It’s 2012, and 10 years have passed since the adventure in the Digital World. Davis Motomiya is now 20, and he and the rest of the DigiDestined seem to be changing bit by bit in terms of appearance and lifestyle. Then one day, a giant DigiEgg suddenly appears in the sky over Tokyo Tower. Daisuke and the others encounter a mysterious young man named Lui Ohwada, who informs them that he’s the first ever DigiDestined in the world…”
Much of the cast is unknown, however Derek Stephen Prince is apparently back as Veemon and Ken Ichijouji. After COVID-related equipment failures, Brian Donovan, the dub originator of Davis, returns to the role. Both are back in their roles for the uncut redub version of the Hurricane Touchdown segment of Digimon: The Movie, but it hasn’t been explicitly stated that any of the other characters that appear here have the same casting.
The first 50 guests to arrive at each screening will receive a complimentary Digimon Card Game Tamer Party Pack -THE BEGINNING- ver. 2.0, which includes three out of 14 possible cards commemorating the film from the new Digimon Card Game deck on a first come, first served basis. Those who get them will be among the first fans in the States to own these new cards before the general public release in December. Tickets for the film are available for advance purchase now at FathomEvents.com/Digimon02, which also provides a complete list of theater locations, even if they might change, or at your local box office.
