Disney's 'Lilo & Stitch' Remake Has Cast Cobra Bubbles And Nani's Boyfriend
Courtney B. Vance and Kahiau Machado join Sydney Agudong, Maia Kealoha and Zach Galifianakis in the Disney+-bound reboot
Emmy and Tony-Award winner Courtney B. Vance and newcomer Kahiau Machado have joined the cast of Disney’s hybrid Lilo & Stitch remake as Cobra Bubbles and David Kawena, respectively.
Kawena is a waiter, fire dancer and surfer who is the love interest for Lilo’s sister and guardian, Nani, and thus sees Lilo and cares for her in much the same way Nani does. Bubbles is the social worker imperiling the orphaned sisters as they do their best to make their new normal work. It ends up that he’s a former CIA agent and is actually still working for the government in an undercover capacity. David is voiced by Jason Scott Lee in the original film and its sequel Stitch Has A Glitch, while Dee Bradley Baker voices him in Stitch! The Movie and Lilo & Stitch: The Series. Ving Rhames voices Cobra Bubbles in all the movies, while Kevin Michael Richardson (the voice of Gantu in it all) voiced him in the series.
Previously reported cast include fellow newcomer Maia Kealoha as Lilo, and Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Nani, with Billy Magnussen in an undisclosed role and Zack Galifinakis in the unconfirmed role of Pleakley. Vance’s Emmys come from HBO’s Lovecraft Country for Guest Actor in a Drama Series and as attorney Johnnie Cochran in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, winning Lead Actor in a Limited Series/Movie. He also starred on the first five seasons of Law & Order: Criminal Intent as Assistant District Attorney Ron Carver. His most recent series 61st Street has an already-produced second season AMC scrapped plans to air. His film roles include The Hunt for Red October, The Mummy, Isle of Dogs, Dangerous Minds, Space Cowboys, and Ben Is Back. He is next set to star in the film Heist 88 for Showtime.
The Hawaii-set story is about the orphaned and lonely Lilo as she ends up bonding with a dog-like alien named Stitch, who was genetically engineered to be a force of destruction (and has bounty hunters in pursuit) over a shared sense of family with a heavy education in Elvis Presley. Marcel the Shell With Shoes On director Dean Fleischer Camp is directing. Chris Kekaniokalani Bright wrote the script that adapts Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois’s original. The film is set to be released on Disney+.
