Disney Prepares A 'Prada' Summer As 'Avengers: Doomsday', 'Secret Wars' Head To Christmas
Marvel now has no May releases ready for the next two years. They must be DOOMED
It’s an Avengers Christmas party or two! Disney has announced that they are delaying Marvel Studios’s two upcoming Avengers films: Doomsday heads from May 1 to December 18, 2026, while Secret Wars heads from May 7 to December 17, 2027.
Insiders noted that since the scale of the films is so gargantuan, the delays simply allow more time to see that vision realized the way they want it. The success of Spider-Man: No Way Home is cited for why the landing spot was chosen, as proof of viability. Could it also be trying to in as many heroes as possible? As for that weekend, the fourth Avatar film isn’t due until 2029, and Star Wars doesn’t seem to be returning to December anytime soon, as The Mandalorian and Grogu and Starfighter are currently set to bring that franchise back to May. Avatar: Fire and Ash holds the equivalent December slot this year. The franchise’s first round of films under Disney ownership saw four released in the December slots Doomsday and Secret Wars now hold, while only Solo: A Star Wars Story did not (it briefly returned the franchise to May). In fact, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Star Wars film continuing Rey’s story was set for December 18, 2026, but its production troubles pushed it off that date in November. It was replaced by Ice Age 6, which has most certainly been usurped by Doomsday. Ice Age 6’s displacement was not mentioned in Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, or Variety’s coverage, so where it landed wasn’t either. Dune: Messiah is still set for that date. Meanwhile, an “Untitled Marvel” flag on February 13, 2026 has been removed while those on November 6, 2026 and November 5, 2027 have been amended to “Untitled Disney” films.

Coming 20 years after the original film, it is expected to follow Runway magazine’s haughty editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) as she navigates the challenges of the declining print industry. The trades are clawing at potential returns for Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway but no other casting has been announced. Aline Brosh McKenna is writing the script while director David Frankel is expected to return, along with producer Wendy Finerman.
Added to the schedule on March 27, 2026 is another 20th Century Studios film, the Ridley Scott-directed The Dog Stars, starring Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin, Guy Pearce, and Benedict Wong. Based on the novel by Peter Heller, it is set nine years after a… flu pandemic wipes out most of humanity. Let’s see how the audience responds 6 years on from COVID. A grieving pilot and his loyal dog cling to survival in a remote Colorado airfield. Still grieving, he sets out on a dangerous journey through a ravaged landscape in search of hope, connection, and a reason to keep living, thanks to a mysterious radio transmission.
