Disney's Centennial-Celebrating Short 'Once Upon A Studio' To Premiere On Television
Everybody's invited! It'll air with the broadcast premiere of 'Encanto'
If you wanted to see the highly anticipated short film Once Upon A Studio sooner than its pairing with the upcoming feature Wish, coming in November, your wish has been granted. The short is set to air on the eve of the actual anniversary.
Yes, air. On Thursday, Walt Disney Animation Studios released the official trailer for which will make its broadcast debut on Sunday, October 15, as part of ABC’s The Wonderful World of Disney: Disney’s 100th Anniversary Celebration!, hosted by Live with Kelly and Mark’s Kelly Ripa. It kicks off with an episode of America’s Funniest Home Videos, which has been in the 8 PM timeslot so far in this early season but it’s probably still strike affected so don’t expect synergy. The night includes exclusive moments and sneak peeks of upcoming Disney projects. The biggest piece of the night will likely be the broadcast premiere of the second 2021 entry into the canon, Best Animated Feature Academy Award winner Encanto. The airing of Encanto will be a week before its scheduled October 22 airing on Freeform, which might be why it was just labeled as a Freeform premiere instead of general television.
The Walt Disney Company was originally founded on October 16, 1923, Once Upon a Studio is directed by Dan Abraham and Trent Correy, and was first shown at Annecy in June. will see an all-star ensemble of beloved Walt Disney Animation Studios characters come together for a group photo to commemorate that 100th anniversary. It becomes a “joyful, entertaining, and emotional” reunion featuring 543 characters from more than 85 feature-length and short films, welcoming heroes, villains, princes and princesses, sidekicks, and sorcerers in all-new hand-drawn and CG animation to celebrate a century of storytelling, artistry, and technological achievements.
Animation fans will surely love this feast of history while picking apart every detail and calling out their biggest-perceived snubs. The trailer already promises Tinker Bell, Peter Pan, the Darlings, Captain Hook and Smee, ‘50s Mickey and Minnie, Bambi, Thumper, Flower, Bolt, Mittens and Rhino, Anna, Elsa, Moana, Flounder, llama Kuzco, Luisa carrying Rutt and Tuke, and Home on the Range’s Maggie, Grace, and Mrs. Calloway.
