'Doctor Who' Wants You To See Mr. Ring-A-Ding In 'Lux' Preview
Let’s all go to Miami, let’s all go to the lobby…
My Ring-a-Ding, you sure do have a bounce in your step! Doctor Who has released the preview clip for “Lux”, the second episode of its current season starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor and Varada Sethu as his current companion Belinda Chandra, even if the current circumstances for the character aren’t so willing yet. The episode has long been known to be guest starring Alan Cumming as the voice of animated character Mr. Ring-a-Ding, and the clip seems to excerpt the two parties’ first encounter with one another in 1952 Miami.
The clip in fact opens with Mr. Ring-a-Ding singing his theme song (image song? Leitmotif? Not sure we have a definitive answer on what fits most). The Doctor and Belinda slowly approach him as they descend the aisle. His song nearly restarts after they exchange greetings, before the Doctor marvels at his living cartoon status. Belinda insists he’s a hologram despite lack of availability. The Doctor determines him to be made of light. How Rimmer.
'Doctor Who' Gets Season Premiere Date With New, Standard Disney+ Timeslot
Disney+ and the BBC may very well be emphasizing the “alien” in alienation in slotting the new season of Doctor Who. The pair have announced that the former’s second season will premiere on Saturday, April 12 at 8 AM UK time on BBC iPlayer, and simultaneously in the rest of the world on Disney+. If you know your time zones, that’s 3 AM Eastern and midni…
“Lux” sees the duo investigate the disappearance of 15 people from the Palazzo Picture Palace cinema, where they encounter Mr. Ring-a-Ding, described as a sinister and wisecracking resident Sunny Town with his friend Sunshine Sally. However, after years of his cartoons playing in theaters he looks beyond the screen and sees the real world outside, to terrifying consequences. Featuring hand-drawn, frame-by-frame animation by Framestore, the cast also includes Anita Dobson continuing her full-season appearances as Mrs. Flood, Lucy Thackeray, Lewis Cornay, Linus Roache as Reginald Pye, and Bronté Barbé, Samir Arrian and Steph Lacey as Doctor Who fans Eliie, Hassan and Robyn. The meta angle here was newly uncovered and will be explored in their interview with Doctor Who Magazine for issue 616 which doesn’t see release until next week.
As for the Unleashed episode, the description tells that host Steffan Powell travels back in time with the cast and crew to the 1950s, where he tries his hand at making the sound effects as a Welsh seaside town turns into sunny Miami amid Storm Jocelyn's gales.
“Lux” releases at midnight Pacific on Disney+ internationally, which equates to 3 AM Eastern and 8 AM local time on BBC iPlayer. Its linear BBC One timeslot matches neither that of last week’s “The Robot Revolution” and next week’s “The Well”, which don’t match either, airing at 7:15 PM GMT.
'Descendants 5' Begins Production With A New Smeegion Of Hoodlums
The future of Disney Channel Original Movies seems murky. Not quality-wise but it’s April and only Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires has been announced for this year. As for the future, Disney+’s original movies are sparser than ever, let alone the DCOMs they share custody of but everyone could see how foolish it would be to not ride the second wind of th…
