Fleece Navidad! 'Family Guy' Sets Up A High Stakes Heist In Trailer For Hulu-Exclusive Christmas Special
Yule be waiting not very long as “Gift of the White Guy” premieres Monday, November 25
It’s only been 3 weeks since Family Guy revealed the title and plot of its Hulu-exclusive Christmas episode “Gift of the White Guy”, but when you’re on 12 days until its November 25 premiere date, it’s going to need some more promotion that need a jump ahead of the actually-December-premiering Christmas shows, episodes, and movies. Hulu was ready Wednesday, releasing both the trailer and its Grinch-inspired key art.
One might recall the previously-released synopsis mentioned that Peter must recover Lois' Christmas brooch after gifting it away in a White Elephant exchange, while Stewie changes his attitude upon learning he's on Santa's “Naughty List”. The trailer is far more unbalanced between its A-plot and B-plot than the trailer for the Halloween episode “Peter Peter Pumpkin Cheater”. While the latter’s showed both rather equally giving clear ideas of both plots in them, this trailer instead has a dominant focus on Peter’s brooch recovery efforts. He enlists Cleveland, Quagmire, and Joe to get the brooch back from a resident at the Rikers Acres Maximum Security Nursing Home. There’s quick cuts of gags and moments that culminate in Peter, wearing Hulk pajamas, opening Brian’s stick gift, which we see Brian use with Meg. There’s not even any sort of hint of Stewie’s B-plot, though Santa is seen getting a suspicious massage from his elves.
While gift rescuing does evoke the show’s first Christmas episode "A Very Special Family Guy Freakin' Christmas" from 2001, and the full-team heist might evoke trying to get into Carter’s safe in 2008’s “Ocean’s Three and a Half”, it might be apt as the arrangement is part of Family Guy’s 25th anniversary celebration. As usual, the episode will star Seth MacFarlane as Peter, Stewie, Brian and Quagmire, and probably a few supporting characters, Alex Borstein as Lois, Seth Green as Chris, Mila Kunis as Meg, Patrick Warburton as Joe, and Arif Zahir as Cleveland, with Peter Macon as Peter’s current boss at the brewery, Preston Lloyd. Mike Henry is still credited in the main cast despite losing Cleveland, leaving him to mostly portray Bruce. There’s no big celebrity guest star being touted like Glen Powell was for the Halloween episode.
This is probably going to be Family Guy’s last Hulu-exclusive episode unless something changes in the long-term future of the show. The proper start to season 23 will happen in the new year on Fox, though the date has not been announced. While that is the case, both ABC and CBS have announced their midseason premiere dates, so we might be getting something in that regard very soon.
