'Good Omens' Officially Renewed For Third And Final Season At Prime Video
It being the last was long-believed even for as brief as the five months since release have been.
May this apocalypse be the apocalast. Amazon Prime Video has officially renewed Good Omens for a third and final season.
The David Tennant and Michael Sheen-starring series created by Neil Gaiman based on the book he co-wrote with the late Terry Pratchett, follows two millennia-long best friends: fussy angel and trader or rare books Aziraphale (Sheen) and fast-living demon Crowley (Tennant) as they fight the apocalypse. Premiering on the streamer in 2019 as an intended limited series, it was renewed for a second season in 2021, which revealed Gaiman had a story contingency plan brewed with Pratchett before the latter’s 2015 death. Frankly it seems either the plot is so under wraps that they aren’t revealing the season’s supporting cast, or the deals aren’t secured yet.
Gaiman had this to say about the renewal: “I’m so happy finally to be able to finish the story Terry and I plotted in 1989 and in 2006,” it reads in Amazon’s press release “Terry was determined that if we made Good Omens for television, we could take the story all the way to the end. Season One was all about averting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies, and the End of the World. Season Two was sweet and gentle, although it may have ended less joyfully than a certain Angel and Demon might have hoped. Now in Season Three, we will deal once more with the end of the world. The plans for Armageddon are going wrong. Only Crowley and Aziraphale working together can hope to put it right. And they aren’t talking.” This comes off of a kiss in the closing moments of the season 2 finale.
Gaiman has a first-look deal with Amazon MGM Studios and is currently working on his Anansi Boys series there as well. With Good Omens he continues as executive producer, writer and showrunner. Previously, he shared showrunner duty with Douglas Mackinnon, who also served as a director and executive producer over both previous seasons. Rob Wilkins of Narrativia, representing Pratchett’s estate, and BBC Studios Productions’ head of comedy Josh Cole are also executive producers.
