‘Goosebumps’ Gets Apt Premiere Date On Disney+ & Hulu
The first two episodes will also air on Freeform
Halloween is on the horizon, so new spooky series to populate October festivities were bound to arrive. The Goosebumps series is playing its part, confirmed to be a shared Disney+ and Hulu release.
The new series based on R.L. Stine’s horror books for children will premiere on both platforms with five of its ten episodes on October 13, which is a Friday, for the respective Hallowstream and Huluween festivities. On that same night, the first two episodes will air on Freeform at unspecified but easy-to-assume timeslots for their 31 Nights of Halloween. The final five episodes will be released weekly on the streamers, allowing it to finish before Thanksgiving.
This new Goosebumps series follows a group of five high schoolers, played by Zack Morris, Star Trek: Picard’s Isa Briones, Miles McKenna, Ana Yi Puig, and Will Price. They will go off on a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of teen Harold Biddle, unearthing dark secrets from their parents’ past, according to the logline. The series also stars F is for Family’s Justin Long and Lucifer’s Rachael Harris. According to Disney+, it “draws on elements” from five books: Say Cheese and Die, The Haunted Mask, The Cuckoo Clock of Doom, Go Eat Worms and Night of the Living Dummy. And yes, Slappy was spotted.
The premiere and finale are written by Nick Stoller and director of the 2015 film Rob Letterman as the series comes from Disney Branded Television and Sony Pictures Television and will be one of the few original series from non-Disney-owned IP to survive on the service going forward, a commitment that led them to drop a readaptation of The Spiderwick Chronicles, among others. Before the 2015 movie and its Haunted Halloween sequel, Goosebumps was originally adapted as an anthology series that ran for four seasons and 74 episodes from 1995-1998, airing on Fox Kids in the United States.
“R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps franchise is a pop culture phenomenon that holds a special place in the hearts of people of all ages,” Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television said. “We are delighted to bring this spooky new series to audiences everywhere in a big way on Disney+ and Hulu, which we hope will not only captivate new audiences with its elevated thrills and chills, but also lifelong fans nostalgic for the stories that are a staple of their generation.” The series’s other executive producers include Hilary Winston, Neal H. Moritz, Iole Lucchese, Pavun Shetty, Conor Welch, Caitlin Friedman, Erin O’Malley and Kevin Murphy. James Eagan and Nick Adams serve as co-executive producers.
Love my goosebumps! Slappy is my favorite!
