Isabel May Joins 'Scream 7' As Sidney Prescott’s Daughter
The next installment of the horror franchise releases in February 2026
We’re about to learn just when Sidney Prescott felt comfortable enough to have children. And now at least one is officially being dragged into her Ghostface dealings. Alexa and Katie star Isabel May has been cast as Sidney Prescott’s daughter in Scream 7, which is set to open in theaters on February 27, 2026.
The franchise’s hard pivot back to its original protagonist has been well documented, because Spyglass fired Melissa Barrera over her condemnation of the genocide of Palestinians, which was followed by losing Jenna Ortega for probably unrelated and solidarity reasons. Director Christopher Landon stepped aside soon after. They then crawled back to Neve Campbell, who sat out of 2023’s sixth installment over a pay dispute. In Sidney’s previous appearance, 2022’s fifth film, she was seen wheeling a stroller, and Dewey (David Arquette) alludes to Mark Kincaid, her romantic interest from 2000’s Scream 3 played by Patrick Dempsey, as her husband, but actual mentions of her kids were nonexistent, let alone detailing anything about them, even in the fourth installment released in 2011. Probably understandable for privacy reasons. It is not known how young or close to her own age May’s character will be, but May herself was born the same year as the third film.
Kevin Williamson, who of the original four Wes Craven-directed films only missed out on writing the third, is back to direct, but is not writing this film. Guy Busick, who wrote Scream and Scream VI with James Vanderbilt is going solo this time while Vanderbilt is busy directing the feature Nuremberg. Filming is set to begin in December in Atlanta after being postponed a few months due to Campbell and Williamson’s schedules. With last year’s dual strikes also cited as a reason for the delays, it may just as much be about what they had delayed before boarding as it is about the film’s own pause. Vanderbilt, representing Project X Entertainment with William Sherak and Paul Neinstein are producing with Radio Silence, the directors of this decade’s first two installments, serving as executive producers.
After starring as Katie Cooper for three seasons on the Netflix sitcom, May moved onto playing Elsa Dutton in the Paramount+ Yellowstone spinoff 1883, before narrating 1923 as the character, and even more recently starring as Marjorie "Marge" Spencer in the ensemble of the Apple TV+ series Masters of the Air. In film, May had a role in the 2022 romantic comedy I Want You Back. Just earlier this month, it was reported she’s starring in mysterious action thriller Karoshi, from Takashi Doscher. She’s also got horror film Menace, which she also executive produced; the romantic dramedy Falling with K.J. Apa; and Love Language, alongside Chloë Grace Moretz, Anthony Ramos, Manny Jacinto, Lukas Gage and Billie Lourd; and the revenge thriller Wild World.
