June Squibb Takes Third Pixar Role In 'Inside Out 2'
Squibb is the only cast member announced since November’s first teaser
Oscar-nominated actress June Squibb has been confirmed to have a role in Pixar’s animated sequel Inside Out 2. Sources are using “joined” but it is unclear how recently that joining happened. While it is likely a small role that could be recorded even so close with five months and counting until release, belief will be held that she’s already recorded her part.
Squibb, 94, has a long and illustrious acting career spanning 70 years, with roles in dozens of films, including her Oscar-nominated supporting role in Alexander Payne’s 2013 dramedy Nebraska, as well as Love the Coopers, About Schmidt, Palm Springs, and Hubie Halloween. Whatever her role is in Inside Out 2, it’s her third at Pixar, following Toy Story 4 and Soul, fourth Disney overall with Ralph Breaks the Internet in the mix. Her TV roles include Modern Family, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Grey’s Anatomy, Bones, Shameless, The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, The Bernie Mac Show, and well, remember one of the last New York-set Glee episodes with that pet adoption drive and retirement home for actors? She was in it with Billy Dee Williams and Tim Conway. She also had recurring voice roles in two of Max‘s disappeared series, Little Ellen and The Fungies!
Inside Out 2 is set for release this June 14. It returns to the mind of now-13-year-old and therefore new teenager Riley, reportedly two years since at least the main action of the first film. Headquarters is undergoing a surprise demolition that brings new Emotions to master control. Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a mostly successful operation when Anxiety appears in front of them. Ennui, Embarrassment, and Envy are poised to join them. A full plot has not been revealed.
Returning are Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, and Lewis Black as Anger, while Tony Hale and Liza Lapira are the new voices of Fear and Disgust due to contract breakdowns. Maya Hawke as Anxiety is the only known casting for a new and identified character so far. It is directed by Kelsey Mann and produced by Mark Nielsen. The first film’s writer, Meg LaFauve, returns as the writer of this film.
