'Kite Man: Hell Yeah!' Trailer Glides Into Business
The 'Harley Quinn' spinoff debuted its trailer two and a half weeks before its July 18 premiere. It’s almost time to wing it
It was about ten months since Max had released the teaser for their Harley Quinn spinoff Kite Man: Hell Yeah!, but with a July 18 premiere date uncovered and fast approaching, something had to give. That happened Monday when the streamer released the official trailer for the animated series, confirming said premiere date.
Like the premiere date escaping just as the Max-relinquished Batman: Caped Crusader unveiled its cast, this trailer release comes just after that series released its own, though it premieres two weeks after Kite Man. The series sees Kite Man and his girlfriend Golden Glider take their relationship to the next level by opening Noonan’s, a bar in the shadow of Lex Luthor’s Legion of Doom. The bar’s name originally gave its name to the show. Serving drinks to dangerous supervillains was never going to be easy, but sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows insane, and they’re always glad to hide a body. It’s got all the blood, violence, and action of the mother show, but way more Lee Trevino.
Matt Oberg reprises his role of Kite Man while Stephanie Hsu voices Golden Glider, one of several recasts for this series. James Adomian continues as Bane, Natasia Demetriou is Malice Vundabar, Janelle James replaces Wanda Sykes as Queen of Fables, Jonathan Banks voices bar namesake Noonan, Keith David takes on Darkseid, previously voiced by Michael Ironside, and Michael Imperioli plays Joe/Moe Dubelz. There’s also Rory Scovel as Gus the Goon and Judith Light as Helen Villigan. The late Lance Reddick managed to take over as Lex Luthor from Giancarlo Esposito, so it remains to be seen what the turnover in the role will look like should there be a renewal. Harley herself also appears, voiced once again by Kaley Cuoco.
Kite Man: Hell Yeah! is executive produced by Harley Quinn co-creators Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Dean Lorey, in addition to Cuoco. Sam Register also executive produces while Lorey serves as showrunner. Halpern and Schumacker had stepped aside as showrunners after Quinn season 3 to focus on this series. It’s produced by Delicious Non-Sequitur, Lorey Stories, and Yes, Norman Productions in association with Warner Bros. Animation.
