Paramount+ Confirms 'Lawmen: Bass Reeves' Premiere Date In New Teaser
Find out when the "cannon-slinging law dog" can finally be seen
Paramount+ has released a teaser trailer for the Bass Reeves-centered first chapter of its Taylor Sheridan-produced Lawmen anthology series. It stars David Oyelowo and is set to premiere on November 5, confirming an earlier tease I gave from the end of the piece about the Vanity Fair feature. This comes after a “tease” was released.
The teaser also highlights Donald Sutherland and Dennis Quaid in their starring roles as Judge Isaac Parker and Deputy U.S. Marshall Sherrill Lynn respectively. Parker is described as “an imposing and commanding judge in the Fort Smith Courthouse with a complicated legacy.” Reeves's story also stars Lauren E. Banks as Bass' wife Jennie Reeves, Demi Singleton as their daughter Sally, Forrest Goodluck as the Cherokee Billy Crow, and Barry Pepper as leader of the 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles Esau Pierce.
Paramount+'s 'Lawmen: Bass Reeves' Gets Big Feature In 'Vanity Fair' And First Teaser
On Tuesday, Vanity Fair published a first look at the upcoming Paramount+ series Lawmen, from executive producer Taylor Sheridan, creator of Yellowstone, and its first season centered on Bass Reeves, through interviews with star and executive producer David Oyelowo at some point between the Writers Guild of America strike that began in early May and the SAG-AFTRA strike that began in mid-July. This is because Oyelowo was available but creator and showrunner Chad Feehan was not.
Reeves worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory. He is said to have captured more than 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded, and for it, he is considered the greatest frontier hero in American history. However, the responsibility of the badge weighed heavily on him, constantly wrestling with its moral and spiritual effects on his dear family. The series uses the first two books of The Bass Reeves Trilogy by Sidney Thompson, titled Follow the Angels, Follow the Doves, and Hell on the Border as its basis.
Recurring cast members include Shea Whigham, Garrett Hedlund, Mo Brings Plenty, Justin Hurtt-Dunkley, Joaquina Kalukango, Lonnie Chavis, Rob Morgan, Ryan O’Nan, Grantham Coleman, Tosin Morohunfola, Margot Bingham, Dale Dickey, and Bill Dawes.
Lawmen: Bass Reeves is created, executive produced, and showrun by Chad Feehan. Oyelowo executive produces with his wife Jessica under their Yoruba Saxon banner, while Sheridan does so through Bosque Ranch Productions. David C. Glasser, David Permut, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, and David Hutkin also executive produce, as does Christina Voros, who will also direct five episodes. The series is also produced by MTV Entertainment Studios. Watch the trailer below.
