'Malcolm In The Middle' Revival Gets Malcolm’s Girlfriend, Daughter, Francis, Reese, New Dewey, And Younger Siblings
Yup, Francis and Reese are back, but Dewey, he’s looking a little different
Yes, there’s no maybe I don’t know, but the cast for Disney Branded Television’s 4-episode Malcolm in the Middle revival for Disney+ is being built quite well. Already with Frankie Muniz’s Malcolm, Jane Kaczmarek’s Lois, and Bryan Cranston’s Hal from the original 2000-2006 Fox series, all four already-born Wilkerson siblings will return, though it’s not the case for the actors. In addition, the sibling that Lois announced she was pregnant with in the series finale will get to make their debut here.
Indeed, the revival is bringing back original cast members Christopher Masterson as Francis and Justin Berfield as Reese, Malcolm’s older brothers. However, Erik Per Sullivan, who played younger brother Dewey, quit acting in 2010, just four years after and has not met up for reunion events thus far. Caleb Ellsworth-Clark, who is a relative newcomer to be seen in Paramount+’s upcoming Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey, has been cast in his place. Masterson is returning to acting for the first time in (over?) six years, a period that has seen the family deal with his brother Danny’s rape case. Whether it’s related or not, I don’t have access to that. His film credits at his working peak included Scary Movie 2, My Best Friend’s Wedding and American History X, while that last credit was the 2019 crime thriller Beneath the Leaves. Berfield’s credits include Big Move and Who’s Your Daddy?, but as a producer and former Chief Creative Officer of entertainment for Virgin, he executive produced several realities and co-created and executive produced the short-lived Fox sitcom Sons of Tucson.
'Malcolm In The Middle' Gets 4-Episode Disney+ Revival
There was a lot touted in the leadup to Disney+’s launch over 5 years ago, like the Lizzie McGuire revival that crashed only a few episodes into production and a raft of library shows from Disney-owned studios ex-Fox and not. One of those was the beloved 2000-2006
As for their other siblings, Anthony Timpano has been cast as Malcolm’s youngest brother, Jamie, who was born at the end of season 4. As was typical practice, Jamie was played by twins James and Lukas Rodriguez. Not everyone can be Blake and Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit, but this is probably either a lower-level version of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s declining, or they just couldn’t get in contact. But if Jamie is still the youngest brother, does that mean baby #6 is finally the first girl? Not quite. Vaughan Murrae has been cast as that youngest sibling, Kelly. Kelly is non-binary, a trait Murrae is bringing to the role. As far as the character description, they’re self-sufficient, including in academics and is already wiser than most of the family. Timpano’s recent TV credits include guest roles in Fire Country, The Irrational and Wild Cards while in film he’s been in Trap House, Sugar, Mixtape and There’s Someone Inside Your House. Murrae’s reported breakout performance came as the lead role of Before I Change My Mind with other credits including The Way Home, The Solutioneers and the Ghostwriter reboot.
The logline reads “Malcolm and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.”. That daughter is Leah, played by Keeley Karsten, whose most prominent credit to date was as Natalie Fabelman in Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans. She’s set to recur on the upcoming Apple TV+ series The Savant and appear in Adult Best Friends. But she’s not the only new lady in the cast. Fear Street star Kiana Madeira, also known as My Adventures with Superman’s voice of Supergirl, has been cast as Tristan, who isn’t Leah’s mother but “Malcolm’s charming and opinionated girlfriend who – by any rational standard – is way out of his league.” Known for starring as Deena (and Sarah Fier) in the horror trilogy based on R.L. Stine’s books, her other film credits include After We Fell, After Ever Happy, and After Everything of the After film series, as well as the Disney Channel Original Movie The Swap, and non-DCOM Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars. She was also a series regular on Trinkets.
Series creator Linwood Boomer returns as writer and executive producer. Cranston, Tracy Katsky (KatCo), Gail Berman and New Regency’s Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan and Natalie Lehmann are executive producers. Ken Kwapis, a frequent director of original series episodes will direct all four of these and executive produce. Jimmy Simons and Laura Delahaye are co-executive producers.
In February, Muniz confirmed the original movie format but was turned into four episodes, saying “…It was originally, I think, pitched as a like a movie, as a feature, like a two hour movie. And for the sake of it being a Disney+, it's four 30 minute episodes, but it's really one storyline, if that makes sense. You're gonna see everybody and figure out where they've been and what they're doing. And we leave it on a great note, you know, and then we'll see what happens after that.” Just yesterday, he revealed he was prepping for filming in just a few days with a full series rewatch, tweeting “Just started watching Malcolm in the Middle episode 1. Got 151 to catch up on before we start filming again in a few days!!! Can't wait to get back together with my old family.”
Charlie Condou Is Unforgotten New Season 'Doctor Who' Guest Star
Even after releasing the episode titles and a second trailer (more on that soon), Doctor Who still isn’t done revealing guest stars for the upcoming new season, which premieres April 12 on BBC, iPlayer, and Disney+. Charlie Condou is the latest, another that’s sure to have those in the show’s various dedicated Facebook groups asking “Who?” as if they kn…
