WATCH: The New Trailer For Marvel's 'Secret Invasion' Has Been Released
The Marvel Studios miniseries starring Samuel L. Jackson premieres June 21
Well, as promised, Marvel Studios released the trailer for the upcoming Disney+ espionage thriller miniseries, Secret Invasion, adapting the famed storyline from the Marvel comics. It was released at 9 PM, just after the seventh inning of the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Texas Rangers.
Admittedly, several of the things seen in this trailer carry over from the one released in September for D23, like the one guy grabbing another by a collar only to realize no one else in the room has his back. But some of the new footage includes seeing the detonator of the explosion from that trailer a new portion of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson)’s conversation with Sonya Falsworth (Olivia Colman). This is Fury’s first fully-involved story since Captain America: The Winter Soldier, having had Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) work as him during 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home while he was off-world. This marks Fury’s return to Earth, as he’s been “gone” for a while. Gi’ah, Talos’s daughter played by Emilia Clarke finds a room full of…somethings that look hooked up. It’s unclear what they are.
The series synopsis reads “Set in the present day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.” Indeed, Martin Freeman and Cobie Smulders are back in their respective roles, as well as Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes. And yeah, for once “Where are the Avengers?” is asked. So while there is Rhodey, there probably won’t be much of an Avengers presence otherwise, as it would be a lot to keep on the down low casting-wise. The repeal of the Sokovia Accords came down by She-Hulk: Attorney At Law’s eighth episode.
Kingsley Ben-Adir, Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, and Katie Finneran round out the cast, with Mulroney apparently playing United States President Ritson, and with what we know about Thunderbolts, it’s possible however he’s imperiled here may be fatal. Ali Selim directs the series and executive-produces, along with fellow executive producers Jackson, Kevin Feige, Jonathan Schwartz, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, head writer Kyle Bradstreet and Brian Tucker. Jennifer L. Booth, Allana Williams, and Brant Englestein serve as co-executive producers.
Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion premieres on Disney+ on June 21.
