Marvel Studios Prepares For Launch Of 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' Trailer
The Future Foundation invites you to take your first steps into a fantastic new era, bright and early at 7 AM
The first look at the newest iteration of Marvel’s first family is happening first thing in the morning. Marvel Studios is getting ready to launch the first trailer for The Fantastic Four: The First Steps on Tuesday, February 4 at 7 AM Eastern, and according to the trailer teaser, everybody’s gathering around the TV store in the ‘60s-style retreats universe the team is from to see it.
Social posts for the teaser read “The Future Foundation invites you to take your first steps into a fantastic new era”. The TVs feature a rocket launch and the team putting on their space suits, with a “Prepare 4 Launch” screen front and center. Why so early, especially when it’s 4 AM Pacific? Because it was previously put on Good Morning America’s schedule that the trailer would debut there, and 7 AM is the ABC morning news show’s starting time slot. While it was subsequently removed, it seems more like trying to put the genie back in the bottle and make it a surprise again. While the teaser says “Launch coverage begins”, it does not seem like Good Morning America is going to do some thematic stunt that YouTube viewers are going to have to wait around to complete, and will likely kick off the show in some fashion. It certainly puts the trailer debut on Disney’s own turf rather than the expected Super Bowl LIX debut that many other films will have on Sunday, February 9 on Fox.
It’s just a little over two months since wrapping for First Steps, which will be released in theaters in less than six, on July 25, 2025. It also finally comes six weeks after the competing DC Studios released its first trailer for Superman, which with its July 11 release means the faceoff between them begins in the latter’s third week. Biggest of all, the trailer release is ahead of its destined placement in trailer packages for Marvel Studios’s most immediate release, Captain America: Brave New World, which opens just ten days later on February 14.
The release of The Fantastic Four: The First Steps‘s first trailer will finally allow the public to see its stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm aka The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Reed’s best friend Ben Grimm aka The Thing in action with whatever CG augmentations the suits, which were seen for the first time via a D23 video message in August, have. It also likely means role confirmations for John Malkovich, Paul Walter Hauser and Natasha Lyonne, the latter of whom may or may not be doubling up. We might even see Ralph Ineson’s Galactus and Julia Garner as his herald Shalla-Bal, the Silver Surfer.
The official synopsis reads: “Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel’s First Family — Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is directed by WandaVision creator Matt Shakman from a script by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, Eric Pearson and Ian Springer.
