The Official Trailer For The Stan Lee Documentary Has Been Released
The doc about the Marvel icon releases on Disney+ on June 16
With a week until release, Marvel and Disney+ have released the official trailer for their documentary Stan Lee, about the Marvel Comics icon for his 100th birthday.
Announced on the occasion itself in December, the documentary will cover how Lee grew up during the Great Depression with little money to spare, but used what little he had to immerse himself in reading; he shares in the trailer "I would read everything I could get my hands on... and man, I felt as though I could go anywhere." This sense of escapism Lee, who died in 2018 found in reading translated to his work, with him being a big part in building the Marvel Universe that is still astounding audiences in new ways today.
First becoming an editorial assistant at 17 at what was then Timely Comics, Lee co-created the Fantastic Four with Jack Kirby which elevated the company to new heights. Together they would subsequently create Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, and the X-Men. Lee would also create Daredevil with Bill Everett and Doctor Strange and Spider-Man with Steve Ditko. While the early stuff is sure to overlap with the previous documentary With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story, there’s already plenty of behind-the-scenes footage from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (specifically Avengers: Infinity War and Captain Marvel) that blew up after the first doc’s release that it couldn’t have. There were even glimpses of emphasis on Black Panther, who became more prominent to the public following his MCU introduction in 2016 (and 2014 announcement).
Stan Lee is produced by David Gelb, Brian McGinn, and Jason Sterman, and developed by Supper Club alongside Marvel Studios. Genius Brands International also serves as a co-executive producer. It premieres on Disney+ on June 16, because Universe-616 is the universe of the main Marvel Comics.
