Marvel Studios To Forego San Diego Comic-Con Hall H Panel For Second Time In Three Years
Considering it took me weeks to complete my coverage of last year’s panel, maybe it’s a blessing
You’re Marvel Studios. You’ve got two year-long holes in your release schedule, and the only films you’ve announced dates for and are the only ones you’ll discuss. Those films you just delayed to December 18, 2026 and December 17, 2027 from May 1 and May 7 respectively are Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. As big as they are, it’s not a lot to talk about for a big San Diego Comic-Con Hall H panel like you’re known for. And so, it’s officially been confirmed that indeed, Marvel Studios will not be holding such panel this year.
Instead, they’re building up for next year. There’s also a bit of logistical reasoning than lacking substance: they’d have to suspend production in London to fly its cast of more than two dozen stars for such an appearance. That doesn’t mean the presence is completely depleted. While the statuses of Marvel Television and Marvel Animation aren’t explicitly clear, as 2022 made the live action television a part of the Hall H extravaganza while animation was separate, still planing panels and events for its comics and games, as well as a focused booth for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which opens on SDCC weekend. That cast will still be making an appearance at CCXP Mexico this weekend.
Disney Prepares A 'Prada' Summer As 'Avengers: Doomsday', 'Secret Wars' Head To Christmas
It’s an Avengers Christmas party or two! Disney has announced that they are delaying Marvel Studios’s two upcoming Avengers films: Doomsday heads from May 1 to December 18, 2026, while Secret Wars heads from May 7 to December 17, 2027.
The anticipation for Marvel Studios to be in Hall H is born from the 2007 edition that featured an Iron Man preview, afterwards utilizing the stage to showcase its upcoming features, including announcement of new titles. The Marvel Cinematic Universe had phase 4 announced there in 2019, while phases five and six were given the same treatment in 2022. While this year’s case is most similar to 2011 2015, and 2018, also characterized by a lack of footage and/or news to share due to production schedules, fans clearly seek consistency in its resilience. Absences already created in 2020 and 2021 by the COVID-19 pandemic and 2023 by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. But as demonstrated lately it’s not as annual as it’s held up to be. Last year, the spotlight on the 2025 slate (including the first appearance together for the First Steps cast) and the clarification on the type of pivot the Avengers movies would take after Jonathan Majors was fired was preceded by a Thursday panel for Deadpool & Wolverine that became a surprise premiere screening, followed by a 10-minute drone and fireworks show over Petco Park.
Those looking for title announcements across the three Marvel Studios facets will likely be looking elsewhere, but where is unknown. Those looking for a similar experience to a Hall H panel, Netflix’s Tudum on Saturday night might be it.
