Marvel Studios Will Return To San Diego Comic-Con Hall H Following Last Year’s Skip
While Marvel was still on convention floor, the dual strikes causing delays and talent unavailability made a Hall H presentation untenable
It’s almost time to reassemble. After the dual strikes removed their presence forcing the broader Marvel to a comics-heavy lean (for a comics convention? Perish the thought!) with a trade floor booth, a comic book panel and autographs from its writers and artists, Marvel Studios is storming back with a Hall H presentation ready to rival those that unveiled the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2019 and the fifth and sixth phases in 2022, a glorious return marked by post-COVID euphoria.
Last year, the Writers Guild of America strike already resulted them in extending the Phase Six timeline into 2027, just a week prior to the choice not to secure Hall H was reported to the public. The SAG-AFTRA strike was looming and came to pass. This year’s SDCC is being held from July 25 to 28, which is the opening weekend of Marvel Studios’s sole theatrical release of the year, Deadpool & Wolverine, which is being tracked for a possible $200 million start. Typically, their presentations occur on the highest-profile day, the Saturday, and that’s not expected to change here. What they’ll be bringing with them is unknown, but they’re sure to bring a far more filled phase 6 timeline than they brought two years prior, which only had The Fantastic Four and the fifth and sixth Avengers films.
As speculation rages on for what they could announce, it’s worth considering that this, as opposed to CinemaCon’s exhibitors or Upfronts advertisers, is the most public-accessible presentation. Meaning they can still be armed with more Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*, maybe even first trailers. Same for the television side, likely an Agatha All Along trailer. There’s also the “reported but yet to have a grand announcement” tier. Wonder Man is finally being talked about, while Armor Wars’s transformation still has yet to be given public acknowledgement. Simu Liu is still asked about the Shang-Chi sequel even after I reported on the first instance. With Michael Lesslie being brought on to write the X-Men film, this might be the Fantastic Four and Avengers-level end-with-a-bang reveal, at least bringing a logo if not a date. Or it could be settling on a title for the fifth Avengers film. If Disney+ series are going to stay at a couple a year, it might even reveal Vision Quest’s new title if it has one as part of its formal announcement, as well as its partner in the 2026 schedule. At least some casts are expected.
