Miranda Cosgrove Is Growing Confident In An 'iCarly' Wrap-Up Movie
The Paramount+ revival was canceled in October after three seasons
Shocker: The creative knows their show and audience better. iCarly star and executive producer Miranda Cosgrove has been on a massive press tour for Despicable Me 4, where she reprises the role of Margo, the eldest of Gru’s three daughters he adopted in the original film. However, it’s the cliffhanger of the third and currently (accepted?) final season of the Paramount+ revival, streamed nearly a year ago, that continues to come up. And she wants that proper ending.
Cosgrove told Variety “I’m pretty sure it’s gonna happen. So I’m excited, and I’d love to get to wrap up the story.” Previously, on an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show that aired on June 27, the 31-year-old said, “I’m hoping that we’re going to get to finally wrap up the story because we left off on a big cliffhanger, so I think there’s a good chance we’re going to actually make a movie.” so there’s an increased confidence right there from hope to “pretty sure”.
But that’s not all. Cosgrove first spoke about it in May, at a special screening for her Netflix romantic comedy Mother of the Bride, where with confidence first budding she said "I had a great experience getting to come back and do it for a few seasons, for sure. But I'd love to still be able to wrap up the story in some way." She would add "Maybe, hopefully, someday, we'll still do it. I feel like it would probably be more along the lines of maybe a movie, that would kind of wrap it all up or something like that. So that's what I'm hoping for."
It is a starker and starker rebuttal to what a spokesperson said on behalf of Paramount+ confirming the cancellation in October, which was “iCarly will not be returning for a fourth season on Paramount+. The series had a great three-season run and delivered on what fans really wanted to see with Carly and Freddie finally getting together.” which clearly makes no sense when they were about to take a major step in their relationship, as will be described.
The iCarly revival followed the juggernaut 2007-2012 Nickelodeon series and starred as influencer Carly Shay, Jerry Trainor as her brother Spencer, Nathan Kress as her producer-turned-boyfriend Freddie Benson, Laci Mosley as her roommate Harper and Jaidyn Triplett as Freddie’s stepdaughter Millicent. The third and final season had a heavy focus on Carly and Freddie finally starting a real romantic relationship together. It got to a point that by what became a series finale, they were contemplating whether they were ready to get married. And at a wedding ceremony for Freddie’s mother Marissa and their ex-doorman Lewbert that they abandoned in favor of elopement, the final moments of the series see the offscreen emergence of Carly and Spencer’s deadbeat mother.
