In the thrillhoing saga of The Simpsons’s casting succession following Pamela Hayden’s retirement, Jimbo has come up first. MadTV alum Mo Collins will be taking over the role starting with this Sunday’s (April 13) episode “P.S. I Hate You” in the show’s typical 8 PM slot on Fox.
Jimbo Jones is a sixth grader, one in Bart’s pack of bullies with Dolph, Kearney and sometimes Nelson. Apparently Milhouse just doesn’t have speaking roles written for him yet, but his recasting will get its own news break when it’s ready. Collins first became known when she joined MADtv at the start of its fourth season in 1998, and stayed on for six seasons and over 150 episodes, returning for a guest sprinkle in the CW reboot season (considered 15th) in 2016. Immediately, she came hitting with characters like Stuart’s mother Doreen and Lorraine Swanson, with an array of celebrity impressions as well. However, if Entertainment Weekly, who broke the story, is to be believed, she’s best known these days for playing Pawnee newscaster Joan Callamezzo, host of Pawnee Today on Parks and Recreation, recurring with 20 appearances across its six seasons. I guess because Peacock does a better job at touting having it than Max does MADtv. Or Parks has an overall more accessible streaming history. Her biggest series regular role has been Fear the Walking Dead as Sarah Rabinowitz, the sister of Daryl Mitchell's Wendell, starting out recurring in season 4, promoted in season 6 and stayed through season 7. In her voice work she has three episodes of Family Guy from the first four seasons, and an episode of American Dad!, but it seems she was an even bigger utility player for Invader Zim, Sheriff Callie's Wild West, Puppy Dog Pals and F is for Family, one of the shows where she worked with Simpsons producer Michael Price, who she thanked in her personal announcement post.
Pamela Hayden Retiring From 'The Simpsons'
Everything’s coming up, Milhouse, including retirement. The 35th anniversary of The Simpsons as a full series has hit a bittersweet note, as Pamela Hayden, most prominently the voice of Bart’s best friend Milhouse Van Houten and Jimbo Jones, one of their bullies, has retired. Writer Carolyn Omine corrected the trades that claimed “Treehouse of Horror Pr…
Her predecessor Hayden actually still has one episode left, the straight-to-Disney+ “Yellow Planet”, which premieres on Earth Day, April 22, though it hasn’t been revealed how many of her characters will be present. She announced her retirement in November, where she declared, “The time has come for me to hang up my microphone, but how do I say goodbye to The Simpsons?……not easily. It’s been an honor and a joy to have worked on such a funny, witty, and groundbreaking show, and to give voice to Milhouse and Jimbo Jones, Rod Flanders, Janey, Malibu Stacy, and many others. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for that blue-haired 10-year-old boy with glasses.” She didn’t take on Jimbo until season 2, and never let it go bar some really scattered instances of Tress MacNeille, with the last of that being season 9’s “The Joy of Sect”. Rod, the older of Ned’s sons, was given to Chris Edgerly as of “The Man Who Flew Too Much”, which aired around Christmastime. Edgerly has been with the show since season 22, mostly serving as a stand-in for guest stars and other absent cast members at table readings.
On Instagram, Collins posted “Some exciting news I’ve been waiting to share! I will be taking over as the voice of Jimbo Jones on the Simpsons! Big shoes to fill. Pamela Hayden has retired, and now remains a legend! Well earned!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Getting that first script and seeing my name on it? Cool!! Stepping into that massive studio? Cool!! Hearing my voice to the animatics?!! So cool!! This is RAD!!! My first episode airs Sunday (gulp!!) I’m so happy to share this news with you! 😁”
The logline for Sunday’s “P.S. I Hate You” reads "Marge’s 'nice-lady' reputation is on the line when an unknown blackmailer threatens to expose the angry woman she is inside." Of course, this is no temporary solution, as The Simpsons has been renewed for four seasons of at least 60 episodes that will get them to forty seasons and the end of the 2028-2029 season.
Disney+ Launches 'The Simpsons' Streams Channel
You’ll never stop streaming The Simpsons now. At about 12:15 PM Eastern on Tuesday, Disney+ launched a live channel for the long-running FOX series as it readies for the resumption of its 36th season on Sunday, March 30. It features all 767 available episodes from the 35 complete seasons that are on the platform.
