'Mystery Science Theater 3000' Announces First Livestream Event Of Season 14 Campaign
We’re gonna need a million eyes to succeed
Creator Joel Hodgson has released another update for Mystery Science Theater 3000’s season 14 crowdfunding campaign. This time he confirms the campaign’s first livestream event, as promised in the previous update.
On Thursday, November 9 at 8 PM Eastern on the Gizmoplex as well as Twitch and YouTube, producer Matt McGinnis will moderate a team of the show’s writers for a watch along commentary of the season 13 episode The Million Eyes of Sumuru. Which writers? Doesn’t say, but the post-premiere discussion of the episode last year featured Felicia Day, Tim Ryder, and (two of?) the episode’s writers Tammy Golden and Devon Coleman. The previous campaign did six riff-alongs to raise funds for the the thirteenth season, and the practice continues here. However, until SAG-AFTRA gets its fair deal, the actors will be unavailable as they are unable to promote, even as reported breakthroughs are happening, making this writer-only affair.
The Jonah-hosted episode was a chance to re-riff a subject from the original KTMA “season 0” days with a far higher-quality copy of the film itself. The film’s description reads as “Sumuru is a beautiful but evil woman who plans world domination by having her sexy all-female army eliminate male leaders and replace them with her female agents.”
In addition, a new reward has been added: Presenting Sponsor , your business or family name will be credited as sponsoring an episode AND short in the new season. This is implemented with voiceover in the end credits that says, “This episode is presented by [YOUR COMPANY OR FAMILY’S NAME]". Included is a papermation promo with your logo or family photo, and URL, to run before the designated episode premieres and during intermission, a video call with Joel and an in-person set visit.
Oh and I didn’t pick this up before, but the show’s production company formerly known as Alternaversal is now known as Gizmonic Arts. With 18 days to go, promotion is key and loudness is necessary. Keep circulating the links.
