Netflix Comes Swinging For The Holidays With 'Happy Gilmore 2' Teaser
The price is wrong again in 2025
Put on your yamikahs, it’s time for Chanukah. But also Netflix is hosting its first NFL Christmas doubleheader, a prime position to showcase what’s coming up for the streamer in 2025. They actually didn’t do much of that, but what they did do includes the upcoming Adam Sandler sequel Happy Gilmore 2, which released its first teaser as part of the festivities, nearly 30 years after the beloved original film.
The teaser does not give much in terms of plot, and an official synopsis has not been given. We see Happy back on the green, and he kept his happy ending with Julie Bowen’s Virginia Venit as they are very much still together and have presumably been married for at least most of the intervening years. Gilmore confronts his rival from the first film, Shooter McGavin, played by Christopher McDonald, in a graveyard, as he pays his respects to Derick “Chubbs” Peterson, played in the first film by Carl Weathers and thus writing his death into the film.
Filming wrapped earlier this month after having started in September. Bad Bunny, The Substance’s Margaret Qualley, Nick Swardson, Kid Cudi, and Sandler’s Uncut Gems director Benny Safdie all have roles still yet to be revealed. Ben Stiller reprises his previously-uncredited role as Hal, who was an abusive orderly in the first film. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is among one of many cameos that include rapper Eminem and professional golfers Keegan Bradley, John Daly, Rickie Fowler, Collin Morikawa, Jack Nicklaus, Corey Pavin, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, and Lee Trevino. Dennis Dugan, the first film’s director will reprise his role as Doug Thompson, who was the commissioner of the pro golf tour in the first film. With directing taken on by Kyle Newacheck, director of previous Sandler Netflix film Murder Mystery, Dugan will still executive produce, with Jack Giarraputo and Robert Simonds producing. Tim Herlihy returns to write.
Back in the original film, Happy Gilmore was an out of control star hockey player in need of anger management. He ends up on a mission to repay his grandmother’s taxes, deciding to enter a professional golf competition with the hopes of winning the big cash prize. Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy New Year, it’s Happy Gilmore time.
