New 'Agatha All Along' Teaser And Featurette Spotlight The Coven
Finally we learn how Sharon Davis got caught up in all this
It’s September, and Marvel Studios is already hyping it up as Agatha Month in the lead up to the premiere of Marvel Television’s next Disney+ series Agatha All Along, with its two-episode premiere on September 18. The last several days have been quite busy with promo, namely a new minute-long rather focused teaser, and a new featurette focused on the witches of Agatha Harkness’s coven.
The teaser sees the Teen, played by Joe Locke, tell Agatha, played by Kathryn Hahn, who he is after breaking the spell Wanda put on her. He’s been a fan for hundreds of years, an obsessive one since discovering her Salem days. She’s the only one to survive the Witches’ Road. When she asks who he is, his mouth seals leaving him incapable of telling her. Another trip down the road will give her what she wants most. It’s followed by some new and some already seen horror imagery from the main trailer.
On Saturday, the featurette “Meet the Witches” was released, with a glimpse of the freshly-freed and confused Agatha. Showrunner Jac Schaeffer gives the idea that she’s assembling her coven to open the Witches Road to her, and it goes through each one of them, starting with Patti LuPone’s Lilia Calderu, who does divination and has visions. Her mind is a little out there, described as “batty”. Ali Ahn’s Alice Wu-Gulliver is the “protection witch” who’s getting in touch with her own powers after her own dormant period. Sasheer Zamata’s Jennifer Kale is quite sarcastic and has her magic based in chemistry and alchemy. Probably biggest of all, it reveals why Sharon Davis, played by Debra Jo Rupp is a major player and not just some episode 1 cameo relegated to Westview. Is she actively learning the coven’s magic in her participation? Well, seemingly not. She’s essentially lied to, invited on the false pretense of a party but she’s none the wiser. At least at first, as we’ve already seen the confusion set in later. And then they meet up with the self-proclaimed badass of the weird, Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal.
Power, betrayal, and revenge, Agatha All Along also stars Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, and Okwui Okpokwasili and features many many other Westview residents reprising their WandaVision roles, as well as Kate Forbes as Evanora Harkness. The songs are written by returning songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez while the executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Mary Livanos and creator and head writer Schaeffer, who splits directing duties with Rachel Goldberg and Gandja Monteiro, all getting three episodes each, taking on the pilot.
