'Agatha All Along' Conjures Official Trailer For Enchanted D23
The truth may be too awful, but I want my prize
These witches sure know how to put on a show. During Marvel Studios’s segment of the Disney Entertainment Showcase on the Friday of D23, the entire starring coven of the quickly-approaching Agatha All Along series, Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Debra Jo Rupp and Patti LuPone serenaded the audience with the Sacred Chant version of the series’ theme song “The Ballad of the Witches Road” (yes, just one theme song this time, but hey, it’s lyrical!), making a major part of the presentation. The official trailer was also released for the series premiering September 18 at 9 PM Eastern with two episodes on Disney+.
Agatha Harkness’s Emmy-winning song that is the show’s namesake plays ominously as she is reminded of being the covenless witch. The memories of her scheme and defeat as seen in mothership series WandaVision haunts her. There are flashes of the coven she is to assemble: Locke’s Teen, Zamata’s Jennifer Kale, Ahn’s (alleged/reported) Alice Wu-Gulliver, LuPone’s Lilia Calderu, and even Rupp’s Sharon Davis, who seems quite confused about why she’s there herself. Agatha is down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from Wanda Maximoff's distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down The Road. It’s a test of stamina and knowledge that even Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal joins them on. Darkness and Harkness take hold, but the road takes everything.
Plaza was with the sextet, studio president and executive producer Kevin Feige, and returning songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez as part of the presentation. The show’s other executive producers are Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Mary Livanos and creator and head writer Jac Schaeffer, who splits directing duties with Rachel Goldberg and Gandja Monteiro, all getting three episodes each, taking on the pilot. Agatha All Along also stars Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili and features many many other Westview residents reprising their WandaVision roles, as well as Kate Forbes as Evanora Harkness.
