'Peacemaker' Sizzles With Season 2 Premiere Date In New Max Reel
It’s been five months, what’s another showcase?
It’s so close you’ll be ready to taste it. HBO has handed The White Lotus’s timeslot over to the second season of The Last of Us upon finishing its third season. This was apparently an occasion momentous enough for Max to release another sizzle reel. While the one released in November had the first footage for season 2 of Peacemaker, this one had… more new footage! About ten seconds worth in fact for the series starring John Cena. But as creator, showrunner, and writer of every episode but director of three this season James Gunn led the way posting it, he revealed that the season would premiere on August 21.
That’s a Thursday, marking 6 weeks from the preview screenings day for Superman, which opens in theaters on July 11 was also directed by Gunn. It follows through on the new Peacemaker season being the next DC Universe project to be released after the film, a planting which will be established in the upcoming season. In fact, Gunn’s post had something of a production update within, writing “Counting the days until Peace on Earth. I just finished the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere yesterday and wow it’s one of my favorite things ever. DC Studios’ #Peacemaker Season 2 coming soon only on Max August 21.” Gunn and his fellow DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran teased the August window speaking to the press in late February, and now we have the specific date.
First 'Peacemaker' Season 2 Footage Released In HBO/Max 2025 Sizzle Reel
With HBO reaching the end of their The Penguin limited series, they’re about to shift over to Dune: Prophecy. But shortly before that finale aired, the network and Max released another of their joint sizzle reels to finish out 2024 and give peeks at what’s coming in 2025. There’s nothing like what comes next. And that includes season 2 of
Danielle Brooks, recently of A Minecraft Movie, returns as teammate Leota Adebayo, and assured that the wait would pay off and whatever succeeds season 1’s beloved opening set to Wigwam’s “Do Ya Wanna Taste It” is pretty great too, saying “It will not disappoint. I will not disappoint. It has a lot of heart in it this season, I think, and it has a great opening. James [Gunn] is so good.” She "had a lot of choreography" to learn and spent "a lot of time with the choreographer because it was intense."
In addition to Cena and Brooks, the second season of Peacemaker brings back Freddie Stroma (Adrian Chase / Vigilante), Jennifer Holland (Emilia Harcourt), Steve Agee (John Economos), Nhut Le (Judomaster), and Robert Patrick as Chris’s dad, the late, now ghostly August Smith / White Dragon. The season welcomes Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., after debuting in Creature Commandos and reprising in Superman, Tim Meadows as A.R.G.U.S. agent Langston Fleury, Sol Rodriguez as Sasha Bordeaux, and David Denman whose role has not been revealed yet. Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett, and Alethea Jones directed the five episodes Gunn did not.
With Dune: Prophecy, The Sex Lives of College Girls season 3, season 2 of Max’s Chuck Lorre comedy Bookie, and the final season of Somebody Somewhere out of the way, with the middle two already canceled as far as Max is concerned (The Sex Lives of College Girls is shopping), the new sizzle reel also featured more of the aforementioned second season of The Last of Us, the remaining The Righteous Gemstones episodes, Hacks, Celtic City, and the two-part Pee-Wee As Himself, which is now joined by another two-part documentary recently announced for Billy Joel, called Billy Joel: And So It Goes. New Conan O’Brien Must Go Iis here but wasn't there, though The Rehearsal, And Just Like That…, and 100 Foot Wave were in both. This reel featured the new film Mountainhead written and directed by Succession creator Jesse Armstrong and starring Steve Carell, Cory Michael Smith, Ramy Youssef, Jason Schwartzman, and Andy Daly, where “wealthy friends meet up amidst an ongoing financial crisis”. Also featured in both were The Gilded Age, and the still upcoming It: Welcome to Derry, Duster, The Chair Company starring Tim Robinson, limited series The Task with Mark Ruffalo, and Rachel Sennott’s series which is still untitled. I would definitely expect Welcome to Derry for a Halloween season premiere.
Nicole Ari Parker Joins HBO, DC Studios’s 'Lanterns' As John Stewart’s Mom
And just like that, HBO and DC Studios’s Green Lantern series Lanterns has brought mama into the picture. The series, in production since the end of February, has set has cast Nicole Ari Parker in the recurring role of Bernadette, John Stewart’s mother.
