First 'Peacemaker' Season 2 Footage Released In HBO/Max 2025 Sizzle Reel
Okay it starts off with the rest of 2024 but still, we got 'Peacemaker' season 2 footage before GTA6 (and 'Superman')
With HBO reaching the end of their The Penguin limited series, they’re about to shift over to Dune: Prophecy. But shortly before that finale aired, the network and Max released another of their joint sizzle reels to finish out 2024 and give peeks at what’s coming in 2025. There’s nothing like what comes next. And that includes season 2 of Peacemaker, giving fans a first look at footage of its DC Universe life as much as nine months before it could potentially premiere.
That nine months comes from, as has been told so many times already, it being repeatedly stated that the season isn’t coming until after Superman, the first film of the new DC Universe, releases on July 11. It could be later in Q3 than August, could even go into Q4, but it is still a long time away and this footage comes before we’ve seen a Superman trailer. It’s only eight seconds but that’s still enough. “No matter how far away we are from each other, no one will ever break us apart,” John Cena’s Christopher Smith aka Peacemaker says over the “11th Street Kids” gang Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), John Economos (Steve Agee), Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), and Adrian Chase aka Vigilante (Freddie Stroma) toasting over beer. Still, they’re not the only ones we get to see, as Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. is here, seen in live action for the first time, after debuting in the animated Creature Commandos series when it debuts in December. It is sandwiched by a bloody bar fight and Peacemaker knifing someone in the throat. Rick Flag, played by Joel Kinnaman, was killed by Peacemaker in 2021’s The Suicide Squad, leaving dad with some unfinished business. For eight seconds, we’re frankly lucky we got the glimpse of Grillo. Of course, with that short timeframe, not everyone, especially the other new players this season we already know about, namely Tim Meadows, Sol Rodriguez, and David Denman, was going to squeeze in. Creator James Gunn, now co-CEO of DC Studios, wrote every episode of season 2 like he did season 1, but only directs three of the eight episodes this season has. Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett, and Alethea Jones have directed the other five. As for the hair discrepancy between the animated and live action depictions, Gunn points to Grillo filming Paramount+’s Tulsa King at the same time.
Frank Grillo’s 'Commando' Rick Flag Sr. To Make Live-Action Jump In 'Peacemaker' Season 2
It’s all starting to come together. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has announced the first step of interconnectivity in the new DC Universe, of course interconnectivity being a crucial part of what makes a cinematic universe. Frank Grillo will reprise his role as Rick Flag Sr., a role he will originate on the upcoming
If you’re wondering what else got fresh looks in this sizzle reel, well of course it starts with Dune: Prophecy before flashing some The Sex Lives of College Girls (season 3 November 21), season 2 of Max’s Chuck Lorre comedy Bookie, the ongoing final season of Somebody Somewhere, HBO’s next limited series Get Millie Black (premiering November 25), and finishing off 2024 is the next season of Hard Knocks with the AFC North. The 2025 portion features new seasons of The Last of Us, The White Lotus, The Righteous Gemstones, And Just Like That…, Hacks, The Rehearsal, 100 Foot Wave and The Gilded Age, with new documentaries Celtic City and the two-part Pee-Wee As Himself, and new scripted series It: Welcome to Derry, the latest Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Duster, The Chair Company starring Tim Robinson, limited series The Task with Mark Ruffalo, and Rachel Sennott’s series which is still untitled. The full reel can be watched below.
