There’s not going to be a cleaner landing than this. Peacock has announced that Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie will premiere on the streamer on December 8.
San Francisco-based Adrian Monk, played by Tony Shalhoub, returns to solve one final, very personal case involving his beloved stepdaughter Molly, a journalist preparing for her wedding.
Reunion Movies Galore! 'Monk' For Peacock, Troy Barnes Returns, 'Scrubs' "Inevitable"
It seems Peacock is going to be the leader of reunion movies in the modern day. After inheriting the Psych movie series from USA to boost itself at launch, and then making a third film, it fulfilled prophecy by ordering a Community movie in late September. There’s news there too, but first, the next order has gone out, and it’s for
Joining Shalhoub to return for the movie are original series stars Ted Levine as Captain Leland Stottlemeyer, Traylor Howard as Monk’s second assistant Natalie Teeger, Jason Gray-Stanford as Lt. Randy Disher, Melora Hardin as Adrian’s deceased wife Trudy and Héctor Elizondo as therapist Dr. Nevin Bell. New cast members include Caitlin McGee taking over for SEAL Team’s Alona Tal as Adrian’s stepdaughter Molly Evans (found in the series finale) and James Purefoy as Rick Eden.
The original Monk series ran from 2002 to 2009 on USA for eight seasons and 125 episodes, the last of which solved Trudy’s murder, which at the time cost Monk his place as a homicide detective and triggered the development of his OCD and various phobias. Creator/writer/executive producer Andy Breckman, executive producer David Hoberman and director/executive producer Randy Zisk said in a statement “Mr. Monk’s Last Case is a story that is powerful, emotional, funny, heartwarming and has something to say about the human condition. And it will be both familiar and surprising.” More first-look images can be seen below.

The film follows in the footsteps of the trilogy of TV movies for Psych, a contemporary of Monk’s on USA that was part of the network’s golden age for original programming. The first TV movie premiered on the series’s original home in 2017, while the sequel Lassie Come Home was an original launch title for Peacock, and another sequel, This Is Gus, premiered in 2021.
