Peacock Releases Trailer For Please Don't Destroy Movie 'The Treasure of Foggy Mountain'
The trio are known for their shorts on 'Saturday Night Live' since season 47
Peacock has released the trailer for The Treasure of Foggy Mountain, the first movie starring Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy, the Saturday Night Live comedy troupe trio better known as Please Don’t Destroy.
The film, releasing straight to the service on November 17, is produced by Judd Apatow and narrated by John Goodman. The trio plays loose versions of themselves, three friends who are now deadbeat co-workers at an outdoor supply store. They realize a mysterious compass they stumbled upon as kids might lead them to a local legend: a fabled golden bust of Marie Antoinette, according to said legend buried in the nearby forest. Finding the bust may be the easiest part of their quest as they fend off hairless bears, desperate park rangers and a hypocritical cult leader. Conan O'Brien plays Ben's dad and the trio's frustrated boss, the park rangers are played by Meg Stalter and X Mayo, while the cult leader is played by Bowen Yang. As previously reported, the show’s newest hire, Chloe Troast, also has a role in the film.
The Treasure of Foggy Mountain was originally set for in theaters on August 18, but moved to its November straight-to-streaming release in May. It is directed by Paul Briganti, a longtime comedy veteran and SNL alum, who previously directed beloved Please Don't Destroy sketches including “Good Variant” with Paul Rudd, John Mulaney and Al Roker and "Three Sad Virgins" with Pete Davidson and Taylor Swift, as well as Rachel Bloom’s “Fuck Me, Ray Bradbury”. After creating hit TikTok and YouTube videos, Marshall, Higgins and Herlihy were hired as SNL writers starting with the 47th season in 2021. The trio also serve as executive producers for the film alongside Josh Church, M. Riley, Sam Hansen and Michael Sledd.
While The Treasure of Foggy Mountain may not directly be an SNL film, of which there hasn’t been since MacGruber and only that since The Ladies Man in 2000, it’s very much a vehicle for the trio like one might say Hot Rod was for spiritual predecessor Andy Samberg. And there’s still plenty of SNL blood with Yang and former writer O’Brien. "They have this group chemistry that feeds off each other," Briganti says. "They're so happy when they're together. That is sort of the core and the warmth of the movie." Saturday Night Live season 49, the trio’s third, premieres on October 14.
