Amy Pascal And Avi Arad Tease Upcoming Spider-Man Films
To be clear, these are films starring Spider-People, not any rogues
Ahead of Friday’s release of the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the film’s producers are looking ahead. Not just to next year’s Beyond the Spider-Verse, after all, they were produced simultaneously and probably feels more short-term. Nah, they’re looking even beyond that.
At the forefront, Amy Pascal touted an animated Spider-Woman movie and a live-action Miles Morales movie at the Across the Spider-Verse premiere. “You’ll see all of it,” she says “It’s all happening.” Producer Avi Arad teased that the Spider-Woman movie will be released “sooner than you expect. I cannot tell you yet, but it’s coming.” This might track, as back when the Spider-Verse sequel was announced weeks before the first film’s release, a spinoff starring not only the Hailee Steinfeld-voiced Gwen Stacy Spider-Woman but Jessica Drew Spider-Woman and Cindy Moon aka Silk was also put into development. At the time, Lauren Montgomery, who worked with Across director Joaquim dos Santos at Voltron: Legendary Defender, was in talks to direct. With the way it’s being referred to here, the project could have undergone any sort of metamorphosis that it really is just down to Gwen, but no new details have been given.
In addition, they revealed progress has been made on the fourth MCU Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. However, it has stalled during the ongoing writers’ strike (and any that may compound it). Zendaya is also mentioned, so maybe Peter attempts to get out of his memory predicament sooner than one may expect. Sony boss Tom Rothman got cheeky about the future. With a chuckle, he said, “If I told you, I’d have to kill you.”
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is also directed by Justin K. Thompson and Kemp Powers and written by executive producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller with David Callaham. The film stars Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Steinfeld, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, and Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man 2099. The film will also feature Issa Rae as Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman, Daniel Kaluuya as Hobart "Hobie" Brown aka Spider-Punk, Jason Schwartzman as the Spot, Brian Tyree Henry and Luna Lauren Velez back as Miles’s parents, Rachel Dratch, Shea Whigham as George Stacy, Andy Samberg as Ben Reilly aka Scarlet Spider, Karan Soni as Pavitr Prabhakar aka Spider-Man India, and Amandla Stenberg as Margo Kess aka Spider-Byte. The film officially opens Friday.
