'Power Rangers Beast Morphers' Season 1 Resurfaces, Breaking Tubi From Its Confines
Beast power has been reactivated, while the Samurai have their first brush with a streamer outside of Netflix
Tubi has activated its beast power. The Fox-owned AVOD streamer grew its Power Rangers library from about 10 of the first 17 seasons to all of its first 17 seasons by the end of 2024. Well okay, the ten episode Alien Rangers miniseries between Mighty Morphin season 3 and Zeo is still missing. Still, Mighty Morphin to RPM were the same range that Pluto TV and the franchise’s FAST channel have. It’s also worth noting that Netflix’s end-of-year further shedding of the franchise turned out to be less than expected, losing none of Ninja Steel, but completely shedding Beast Morphers by losing season 2 just under a year after season 1. It turns out, complete streaming absence unavailability wasn’t the case for long, as by a few weeks later, Beast Morphers season 1 had appeared with the first eighteen seasons of the franchise. That’s right, Power Rangers Samurai appeared with it. It’s not quite clear the exact date they were added, but it’s somewhere around January 17.
The Beast Morphers appearance marks the first time any of the final seven seasons of the 30-year franchise are streaming outside of Netflix. Beast Morphers are the 2019 and 2020 seasons, and by adapting the 2012 Sentai Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters was the only time the franchise went back and fully adapted a leapt over Sentai series. It sees three Rangers tasked by the Grid Battleforce organization with protecting the city’s supply of Morph-X, a clean energy source the city runs on that comes from the power of the Morphin Grid. Except when two of them, Blaze and Roxy, played by Colby Strong and Liana Ramirez are about to be granted their Ranger powers, a sentient computer virus called Evox corrupts it, creating evil living avatars of them to serve him. Their actual selves are comatose as long as the avatars are active. The son of the commander, Ravi Shaw, played by Jasmeet "Jazz" Baduwalia, has successfully become the Blue Ranger, while the laundry worker and daughter of a local field reporter, Zoey Reeves, played by Jacqueline Scislowski and the “slacker” son of the Mayor, Devon Daniels, played by Rorrie D. Travis become the new Yellow and Red Rangers. The child science prodigy, Nate Silva, becomes the Gold Ranger, while the robot brother he brings to life, Steel, becomes the Silver Ranger. They are fused with cheetah, rabbit, gorilla, mantis, and scarab DNA, respectively, thus Beast Morphers. They were the last team to completely premiere their adventures on Nickelodeon, and was the only season(s) to exclude non-Ranger but still human main characters from its theme song. The cover art for its Tubi page is unlike anything the franchise ever saw on Netflix and looks more like the box art of the toys, if at all. Hector David Jr., 'Power Rangers Samurai' Green Ranger, Sentenced In Battery Case After Guilty Plea
Power Rangers Samurai, the eighteenth season and first to air on Nickelodeon, made its way to YouTube over March and April 2023. This team of Rangers is the latest in a lineage of Samurai Rangers who must prevent the demonic Nighloks from destroying humanity by flooding the surface with its otherworldly Sanzu River water. It starred Alex Heartman as Red Ranger Jayden Shiba, Najee DeTiege as Blue Ranger Kevin, Hector David Jr. as Green Ranger Mike, Erika Fong as Pink Ranger Mia Watanabe, Brittany Anne Pirtle as Yellow Ranger Emily, and Steven Skyler as Gold Ranger Antonio Garcia. It also starred Rene Naufahu as Mentor Ji, Rick Medina as the Nighlok Deker, and to drive home that Mighty Morphin nostalgia, Paul Schrier reprising his role as Bulk, along with Felix Ryan as Spike, the son of his best friend Skull.
While we await the proper reunion of both Beast Morphers seasons with now multiple confirmed options (hey, the YouTube postings could start in this next period), Tubi is still expanding its Power Rangers collection in another way, one that has never really been seen before. On top of having Shout! Studios’s Super Sentai collection long before Power Rangers showed up, the 2017 reboot movie is set to be added in February. It stars Dacre Montgomery as Jason, RJ Cyler as Billy, Ludi Lin as Zack, Becky G as Trini, Naomi Scott as Kimberly, Bryan Cranston as Zordon, Bill Hader as the voice of Alpha 5, and Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa. The film had never streamed on Netflix. It’s not either film that resembles or is from the original continuity, but it’s something.
