'RiffTrax Live: TimeCop' Kickstarter Hybridizes Stretch Goals In Final Days
Just under 45 hours to go!
It has been ten whole days since RiffTrax’s Kickstarter campaign for their live show riffing the 1994 sci-fi film TimeCop had an update. The clock for Mystery Science Theater 3000 alums Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett, and Michael J. Nelson, who have done this annually about a dozen times now, has wound down so much it leaves just under two days until the campaign, which has long surpassed its $350,000 goal, ends. $540,563 has been raised from 6,033 backers, that’s nearly amassing $75,000 with 1,400+ backers joining the campaign. This means that three more shorts have been unlocked based on backer milestones since the last update: “The Big Yellow Fellow” at 5,000, “Bicycle Safety Camp” at 5,500, and “Appreciating Our Parents” at 6,000. They join “What Mary Jo Wanted”, “Little Red Riding Hood”, and “Speak Up Andrew”, with four shorts, “Beginning Responsibility: Learning to Follow Instructions”, “Boredom at Work”, “My Mother Was Never A Kid”, and “The Munchers” awaiting at 500 backer intervals until 8,000.
Passing $480,000 meant another Meat and Makeup Raffle hosted by Bridget Nelson and Mary Jo Pehl for those at the $80 tier and higher. Passing $500,000 means those at the same tier will receive a brand new sports movie-themed riff compilation. $550,000 unlocked The Mads Are Back: A Night of Shorts As Chosen By the Fans (Volume Two!), a curated collection of short film riffs by fellow MST3K alums Trace Beaulieu (Clayton Forrester) and Frank Conniff (TV’s Frank), with the release provided by The Mads Are Back’s producers Dumb Industries. $600,000 unlocked that backers at the $40 level and above like myself gets a pre-show slide which will feature all their names. Now that catchup is over with, it’s time for the meat: Two backer-based stretch goals are getting funding-based goals tied to them, a move also executed for last year’s campaign down the stretch, though with much more time.
Rifftrax Gives Fund-Based Option To Remaining Kickstarter Campaign Stretch Goals
Very quickly, Mike, Bill, and Kevin at Rifftrax have turned around with another update for their Point Break live show Kickstarter campaign. With around 5 days left, the totals stood at $550,109 from 6,353 backers when first starting on this article. Now it’s at $563,729 from 6,470 backers. With a good handful of stretch goals still to reach, the guys e…
The 7,000 backer stretch goal unlocking the special "pilot" episode of The Mary Jo Pehl Show from Dumb Indistries for backers at the $80 Digital Only + Digital Stretch tier and above can now be unlocked if the campaign reaches $545,000 in funding. That’s just under $5,000 away! As a reminder “Pilot” is in quotes because according to a producer, it is actually a “compilation episode” of the series edited from various show segments over the years into a single 30-minute episode. The 7,500 backer goal of the Live Show Blu-ray + DVD Double Pack for those at the $100 Live Show DVD Package who would no longer have to choose between one format or the other can now be unlocked if the campaign reaches $565,000 in funding, whichever comes first.
In addition, the guys will not be doing BackerKit surveys, where additional rewards could be added after the campaign ends nor Pledge Manager this go-round. Instead the same processes will be done natively on Kickstarter. More information regarding that to come as the campaign ends.
TimeCop takes place in the futuristic world of 2004. Max Walker, played by Jean-Claude Van Damme, is splitting the very barriers of space and time after the death of his wife, played by Mia Sara, at the hands of time-traveling goons, he is recruited to an elite task force of time-based police officers, the Time Enforcement Commission. Unfortunately, a U.S. Senator (Ron Silver) has gained access to their system of time travel and he’s using it to commit unspeakable evils across generations and must be stopped. The riff of the film will be performed live by the guys at the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, TN on June 26, and be broadcast to the big screen in over 700 movie theaters across America on Thursday, August 14 with an encore on Tuesday, August 19 as a Fathom Event.
