Rifftrax Gives Fund-Based Option To Remaining Kickstarter Campaign Stretch Goals
Bridget and Mary Jo get their first feature length movie to riff! But only if we reach that stretch goal!
Very quickly, Mike, Bill, and Kevin at Rifftrax have turned around with another update for their Point Break live show Kickstarter campaign. With around 5 days left, the totals stood at $550,109 from 6,353 backers when first starting on this article. Now it’s at $563,729 from 6,470 backers. With a good handful of stretch goals still to reach, the guys evaluated what’s left and decided to give everyone the best chance at hitting those goals, and are doing so by expanding the manner in which they can be unlocked.
All remaining stretch goals not only are unlockable by an amount of backers, but dollars funded, whichever comes first. For example, having your name (small) on a pre-show slide was achieved by hitting 6,500 backers or $560,000 raised for all backers at the $40 reward level or higher. Next up, the Best of The Mads Are Back VOD can now also be attained for all backers by hitting $580,000 raised or the previously revealed 7,000 backers, their The Phantom From 10,000 Leagues VOD can now go out to backers at $600,000 raised or 7,500 backers, the Mike and Bridget Watchalong and Q&A can now happen when hitting 8,000 backers or $620,000, and the mini-golf excursion is at 8,500 backers or $640,000. Beyond that, the Just the Jokes MP3 riff for the original The Karate Kid can now happen at 9,000 backers or $665,000 raised, and Kevin’s skydiving adventure can not only happen if there are 10,000 backers, but if the campaign hits $750,000 raised, which is under $200,000 away but that is pretty lofty.
That’s not all however, as another stretch goal has been added: a VOD riff of a feature film featuring not only the three guys, but Bridget Nelson and Mary Jo Pehl, all five of them together. The lovely ladies had been squarely the B-team for however long they’d been part of things, with their own series. For the live shows, they had only previously been brought on twice. The first was for the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Reunion, which made sense as they had both been cast members (in differing capacities) as well as writers. That was in June 2016, between MST3K’s Kickstarter and first Netflix season premiere. The other was the very next June, the Summer Shorts Beach Party. Neither had feature length films, and if what they’re saying is correct, the women haven’t been part of their regular, non-live movie riff offerings, and this VOD would be the first to correct what is rightly being called an egregious error, in any permutation. This can be unlocked by reaching either 9,500 backers or $700,000 raised. Like most of the other stretch goals, it will be part of the rewards package for backers who pledged at the $80 Digital Only + Digital Stretch tier and higher.
And what better way to leap to the goal than reopening some of the priciest reward tiers? That’s exactly what happened Wednesday afternoon, with three new slots for the $2,395 VIP Guest of Honor tier, which also grants access to an exclusive Meet and Greet and Q&A with Mike, Kevin, Bill and the whole RiffTrax crew. Five more personalized video messages from Mike, Kevin and Bill for $400, and five from Bridget and Mary Jo for $405 have also been added. It’s coming down to the wire and it’s going to be a nailbiter.
