Rifftrax Goes 'Over The Top' Announcing New Kickstarter Stretch Goals
With another 'Point Break' point broken, it was time for Mike, Bill and Kevin to stretch a little more
It’s time to meat and makeup, as another update for Rifftrax’s Kickstarter for their Point Break live show has gone out. The campaign has 19 days remaining and garnered $461,684 from 4,989 backers (as of mid-writing update). Not only did “People Soup” join “Wonderful World of Tupperware”, “Jack and the Beanstalk”, and “Six Murderous Beliefs” in the unlocked pile, but so did “The Kids Guide to the Internet” and “Truck Song”. There’s less than 100 backers until “The Boy Who Didn’t Listen”, making only three shorts left to unlock. Of course, as it stands, the $420,000 stretch goal of producing a Blu-ray release of the live show has been surpassed, happening March 13, which means it’s time for more stretch goals!
At $465,000, Mike, Bill, and Kevin will write a new riff of the 1987 Sylvester Stallone film Over the Top, which also stars Robert Loggia and riff it together. The film had been riffed before, but as a Mike solo effort in the company’s infancy. Backers at the $80 Digital Only + Digital Stretch tier and higher will get the Just The Jokes MP3 produced from it included for free as part of the already-present rewards.
But that’s not all. To not have to keep adding after every single hit stretch goal, the crew has already placed the posts. For $480,000, the team will produce the first ever RiffTrax Live album, Cheep Tunes: Music From RiffTrax Live, which will compile their favorites of the original songs they’ve produced through the years themed around their live show subjects, usually played over end credits. Again, this will be available to backers at the $80 Digital Only + Digital Stretch tier and higher as part of their package, as they are just the songs and don’t mention anything about CD or vinyl releases, thus making them part of the digital stretch goals that they are entitled to. In fact all of the stretch goals announced in this update are for those tiers, so keep that in mind with the remaining.
At $500,000, meat and makeup giveaways will be back on the itinerary! Bridget Nelson and Mary Jo Pehl so enjoyed giving away delicious treats and beautiful makeup that they’re looking to do it again. Those eligible to be in attendance will have a chance to win fun prizes and screen several shorts with them, with the opportunity to help them choose one to riff. Finally, at $530,000 raised, the crew put together a collection of clips from some of the worst comic book movies and riff them, with each clip getting their own introductions from Mike, Kevin and Bill.
There’s still plenty of time to contribute and share around if you haven’t already. The campaign ends April 8, while the main fruit of the campaign, Rifftrax Live: Point Break, will screen in theaters nationwide on August 8, with an August 13 encore.
