Rifftrax Marks Successful Kickstarter Funding By Announcing First Stretch Goals
The Rifftrax Live show for Point Break is officially funded! But there’s still a lot of work to do
In just under two days, the guys at Rifftrax have officially succeeded funding their Kickstarter for this year’s Rifftrax Live show, which features them riffing the 1991 film Point Break, starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze and directed by Kathryn Bigelow. As of writing, they’ve made it to 110% of the goal at $388,716 from 3,657 backers with 30 days to go. The first campaign update went out Thursday, relishing in victory while setting new reward goals for its backers and making it easier for anyone to contribute and get something for it.
First, they’ve opened up a $1 reward tier, which doesn’t get anything on its own but allows those who would otherwise be holding off to receive the rewards unlocked at stretch goals that are for all backers. That includes up to ten bonus shorts absolutely free (although they do become a motive for contributing the dollar so YMMV). The ten shorts will be unlocked starting at 3500 backers and then every 250 more. All ten shorts are already available on Rifftrax’s website so if you already happen to own any of them, it’ll earn a dollar each of gift credits. What are the shorts? Well 3500 backers unlock “Wonderful World of Tupperware”, 3750 unlock “Jack and the Beanstalk”, 4000 unlock “Six Murderous Beliefs”, 4250 unlock “People Soup”, 4500 unlock “The Kids Guide to the Internet”, 4750 unlock “Truck Song”, 5000 unlock “The Boy Who Didn’t Listen”, 5250 unlock “Arranging the Buffet Supper”, 5500 unlock “Farm Animals”, and 5750 unlocks the live version of “Play Safe”.
But that’s not all, the first dollar-based stretch goal has also been revealed. At $420,000, a Blu-ray of RiffTrax Live: Point Break will be produced and released, with a special slipcover. All backers at and above the $100 Live Show DVD Package tier will be able to select a DVD or Blu-ray option during the Rewards Survey process. With Point Break being one of the most well-known films to get the RiffTrax Live treatment in the history of the company, it was considered deserving of a release in the highest definition possible. More updates have been promised and with a full month of campaigning left to do there should be no worries of followthrough.
