Rifftrax Adds More Reward Tiers In Latest Kickstarter Campaign Update
More limericks! More underpants! More video messages! Come contribute!
Rifftrax is barreling toward achieving its first dollar-based stretch goal in its Kickstarter campaign to produce its annual live show, with this year’s riffing target being 1991’s Point Break, starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. Currently at $413,715 from 4,152 backers, three of the free shorts for all Kickstarter backers have already been unlocked: “Wonderful World of Tupperware”, “Jack and the Beanstalk”, and “Six Murderous Beliefs”. Next is “People Soup”. While last update introduced an easier contribution point, the shorts journey, and that dollar-based stretch goal of producing a Blu-ray for this year’s live show, extensions have been made increasing availability for two of the heftier reward tiers while creating two new but similar ones.
First, the new tiers are two different groupings of personalized video messages: from Mike, Kevin and Bill for $400, while a message from Bridget Nelson and Mary Jo Pehl, who were teamed for their own riffs in the company starting in 2015, going for slightly higher at $405. While yes they are basically what Cameo does, I have no idea whether these are typical prices because I don’t use Cameo because I feel I’d be too priced out. However, these messages came in limited quantities of ten spots each. As of writing, the main trio’s actually already sold out, so clearly it was no issue for them. Seven spots remain open for Nelson and Pehl. Both women also began on Mystery Science Theater 3000, with Nelson being primarily a writer, making staff in season 4 and racking up several minor characters during the show’s run. She’s also Mike’s wife. Pehl is best known as Pearl Forrester, the mother of original Mad Dr. Clayton Forrester (played by Trace Beaulieu) and is the only person on the Rifftrax crew that has maintained regular status on MST3K, reprising the role in such capacity in season 13 now in the purview of her granddaughter Kinga (Felicia Day).
As for reward tier extensions, Mike has granted five additional Underpants Guy drawings, still at the $595 reward tier, and Bill has granted he’ll write five more limericks at the $495 reward tier after both had their 10 respective slots sold out. Now at 15 spots each, it’s sounding unlikely they’ll be expanded further. These tiers also encompass the digital goodie pack, digital stretch goals, gift credit, the Kickstarter pin, the live show DVD and downloadable copy, name and photo in the show’s credits, the 8x10 autograph, the Planning Session Invite, the separate shorts collection from the $20 reward tier, the exclusive shirt and of course name on the thank you page. The campaign closes in 27 days.
