'Cheep Tunes: Music From Rifftrax Live' Tracklist Announced In Latest Kickstarter Update
Fans of music written for television and movies unite as Rifftrax puts out more of the original songs they’ve made
April has come. Bill, Mike, Kevin and the rest of the team at Rifftrax have a week left on their Kickstarter campaign crowdfunding their live show riffing of 1991’s Point Break, starring Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze, and Gary Busey. With $536,143 raised from 6,197 backers, not only was the Retro Superhero Movie Compilation VOD unlocked, but so was the first-ever RiffTrax vinyl release, for Cheep Tunes: Music From Rifftrax Live, which itself was also unlocked earlier in the campaign. The campaign’s sixth update not only detailed the strategy of its part as a reward, especially the vinyl, but the track list of what songs will be featured on the album.
If you’re someone who’s never watched a Rifftrax live show, the songs’ titles do well enough to give an idea of what they’ve tackled in their 15 years of doing them, such as “Samurai Cop Rockin' Action Theme” which leads off the album. It’s followed by “Summer Shorts Beach Party!”
and “The Short Films Are Nice”, because sometimes they just did shorts (definitely cheaper than certain features). What’s collected as Side A on the vinyl is finished off by “Mutiny of Love”, for the Space Mutiny live show, “Krull! The Legendary Theme Song, “Jack the Giant Killer Theme”, “The Legend of Octaman” and “Birdemic, Horrifying Birdemic”. The latter four all seem pretty explanatory. While an uninterrupted listing on the digital release, Side B of the vinyl consists of “(He's a) Star Raider” for Star Raiders, “Spider on the Highway” for Giant Spider Invasion, “Funky Hobgoblins”, “2000 Miles from Amityville” for Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes, “Your Ever-Lovin' Swamp Thing”, “Hittin' on Family Members” (even on a search I’m not sure what this one is from), and “It's Good to be Rad” from last year’s Rad live show as the bonus track.
As for why the vinyl was implemented the way it was, the guys explained. It was made a backer-based stretch goal mainly because not everyone wants a vinyl record, nor does everyone have the equipment to play it This also serves its exclusion from any of the other physical reward tiers. The funds raised through the campaign allows them to produce the record with a beautiful cover, a customized record sleeve, and remastered tracks to take advantage of the vinyl format. Those who pledged at a physical media tier, which starts at the $100 Live Show DVD level must add the vinyl to their pledge through the "Add-ons" feature. To get there, go to "Manage Pledge" on the main campaign page to confirm the chosen reward level and add the vinyl or other add-ons. Those who have pledged at a digital-only reward level, the vinyl and all other physical add-ons will be available to purchase for all reward levels when the campaign ends, and reward surveys have been sent out. Instead of the main campaign page, the ads-ons will be handled on PledgeManager, which sounds like an alternative to BackerKit which has been the traditional spot to handle these things.
The guys promise there will be more updates soon, presumably before the end of the campaign on April 8 and ensuing wrap-up related updates.
