Secret Animated 'Predator' Movie 'Killer Of Killers' Announced
Unfortunately it’s going straight to Hulu, but it looks cool. Bonus: 'Badlands' CinemaCon coverage!
Back when Predator: Badlands was being inserted into Disney’s theatrical release schedule over Blade’s production troubles, directly replacing it for a November 7 release there were rumblings of a second film in the franchise for the calendar year. This would be animated, an anthology even, much alike to Warner Bros.’s direct-to-video film The Animatrix from 20 years ago. But it wasn’t confirmed for over 5 months, and that’s better than nothing because it’s coming rather fast. 20th Century Studios has announced that film is called Predator: Killer of Killers, and it’s going straight to Hulu to premiere on June 6. It will be available as part of Hulu’s offerings on Disney+ as well, and on Disney+ internationally. A first look trailer was released.
Predator: Killer of Killers is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, director of the franchise’s most recent installment Prey, which also went straight to Hulu, as well as Badlands. The anthology format chronicles the Predator’s face offs in three different eras of the fiercest warriors in human history: a Viking raider guiding her young son on a bloody quest for revenge, a ninja in feudal Japan who turns against his Samurai brother in a brutal succession battle, and a World War II pilot who takes off in his plane to investigate an otherworldly threat to the Allies. As the logline goes “While all these warriors are killers in their own right, they are merely prey for their new opponent — the ultimate killer of killers.”
Marvel Studios’ 'Blade' Removed From Release Schedule As 2028 Gets Staked
In this summer’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which featured Wesley Snipes reprising his role as Marvel’s vampire hunter from his trilogy of New Line Cinema films, it was said there’s only one Blade, and there’s only ever gonna be one Blade. The wink Deadpool gave may take on a whole new context if it wasn’t thought of already.
The film also stars Lindsay LaVanchy, Louis Ozawa, Rick Gonzalez, and Michael Biehn, which might indicate very intimate faceoffs for each part. The Third Floor provided the animation, with Josh Wassung serving as co-director of the project. Micho Robert Rutare wrote the film from a story conceived with Trachtenberg, with the use of Predator and the species necessitating the credit of based on the characters by Jim Thomas & John Thomas, who wrote the original film. Trachtenberg, John Davis, Marc Toberoff, and Ben Rosenblatt produced, with Lawrence Gordon, James E. Thomas, John C. Thomas, and Stefan Grube being executive producers.
This means both of this year’s Predator films have had trailers shown in the last week, as Badlands was part of Disney’s CinemaCon presentation, with star Elle Fanning took the stage to tease. The trailer was not released to the public. “Something unprecedented happens in this movie, and my character is not the one being chased,” she reveals. “My character actually teams up with the Predator, and you get to see him in a whole new light.” Her character tells in the trailer “You’re hunting something that can’t be killed.”
20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell hinted at Killer of Killers too when Badlands was scheduled. “After Prey became a success, Dan [Trachtenberg] came back and said he didn’t want to do Prey 2. And we’re like, ‘What do you want to do?’ And he rattled off a bunch of ideas that were really crazy but really cool. We’ve actually done two of them.” Watch the Killer of Killers trailer below.
