'Sinners' Stakes An HBO Max Independence Day Bite
When the racism of America is literally undead, fight back.
Smoke and Stack are coming home. And it would only be expected. Max has announced that the Ryan Coogler vampire flick Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan, will arrive on HBO Max on July 4.
The announcement comes on the day A Minecraft Movie, which opened on April 4 and proceeded to conquer the box office in its own way, reaches HBO Max. Sinners opened April 18, and July 4 is two weeks from today. This means the windows for both are an equal 77 days or 11 weeks, and seems to be a settling standard, since Mickey 17 lasted that long as well before arriving on Max. Not only was it the Warner Bros. film previous to A Minecraft Movie, but also happens to be the film Sinners switched with on the release schedule.
'A Minecraft Movie' Crafts A Pristine HBO Max Streaming Date
Minecraft is not my thing, but if you can’t lava chicken, who can you love? A Minecraft Movie was probably the first bona fide hit of 2025, so when it came to finding out when the Warner Bros. film was chicken jockeying its way to HBO Max, I stayed alert. At first, it was hit with a Coming Soon, but it turned out to build up to their typical advance not…
Jordan stars in Sinners as the Smokestack twins, Elijah “Smoke” and Elias “Stack” Moore where in the early 1930s American South, they and their aspiring rock blues star cousin, played by Miles Caton, return to their Mississippi hometown and bring on a group of musicians and singers, including an old flame of one of the brothers, played by Hailee Steinfeld, for a night of dancing at a juke joint. However, the night turns even darker as a clan of white vampires manipulate just right to break in and infiltrate the evening of Black pride and community.
Considered one of the most successful horror films of all time, it has grossed $362 million globally, one $276 million domestic and $86 million international split. Its domestic opening weekend was $48 million, 20% above the higher end of projections, and then followed up with a second weekend of $45.7 million, just a 4.9% drop. Even after relinquishing its premium-large format and IMAX screens to the opening of Thunderbolts* in week 3, it only dropped 28% with $33 million, the best ever third weekend for a horror film. There has been massive and wide praise Coogler’s direction, Jordan’s dual performances, and the jaunty soundtrack. The film also stars Jayme Lawson, Delroy Lindo, Wunmi Mosaku, Omar Miller, Spider-Noir’s Li Jun Li, 28 Years Later’s Jack O’Connell, Christian Robinson, and Buddy Guy. Coogler also wrote the film, producing with his wife Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian. The executive producers are Ludwig Göransson, Will Greenfield, and Rebecca Cho.
Riri Williams Goes Suitably Iconic In 'Ironheart' Trailer
Whoever decided to release the Ironheart trailer the same day as Superman is maniacal. Back at the end of October, Disney+ had set premieres and premiere windows for Marvel Television in all of 2025, including a June 24 date for the long-awaited Ironheart
