'Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse' Finally Spins A 2027 Release Date Out Of CinemaCon
Sony Pictures Animation has released five exclusive images from the film with their announcement
On June 2, 2023, Sony Pictures Animation released Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, unleashing it on a $690 million box office run. It’s a month into the Writers Guild of America strike but its sequel, Beyond the Spider-Verse, is still set for just 9 months later on March 29, 2024. On July 14, SAG-AFTRA strikes as well, and two weeks later Sony makes its first major schedule shakeup in response. Among them, Beyond the Spider-Verse is removed indefinitely, attributed to indefinite voice actor unavailability. Things largely go silent, except for scant voice recording status updates (rumors) and a sturdy declaration of directors in December. But now CinemaCon, the movie theater trade show based in Las Vegas, has returned. Here, Beyond the Spider-Verse was announced as part 2 of Across one year and arrived with its current title at another. So leave it to CinemaCon for Miles Morales to come swinging back.
It was announced that the film is now scheduled for June 4, 2027, the same weekend “We know how important this franchise is to so many people around us. We just could not run it back,” the filmmaking team of producer Phil Lord and co-directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson said. “So, we decided we needed to take the time to make sure we got it just right.”
