'Spidey And His Amazing Friends' Stomps Toward A Prehistoric August With “Dino-Webs” Arc
It’s Morphin time! Stegosaurus! Pterodactyl! Tyrannosaurus! Guess a Spider-Rex take was inevitable considering kids love dinosaurs.
Just when you thought Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends couldn’t get any more toyetic, they aim for the dinosaur market midway through its third season. Guess they really know their demo. Because really, they’ve already been bitten and mutated by spiders, how bad could a dinosaur mutation be for Peter, Gwen and Miles?
Friday saw the preschool-aimed series return to Disney Jr. and Disney Channel after a hiatus of nearly 2 months to kick off a new “Dino-Webs” arc to follow “Web-Spinners”. Episodes premiere in 8 AM and 8:30 AM timeslots respectively, at least for all August-premiering episode pairs. “Go Dino-Webs Go!” had child-aged Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales, aka Spidey, Ghost-Spider, and Spin, receive their new dino powers from their friend Reptil to defeat the Green Goblin’s Dino-Mech. He is evidently nicknamed “Gobby”. It was paired with “Ghost in the Museum” where Team Spidey must stop a ghost that’s stealing from the museum.
August 9’s premieres are “Grow Webs Grow”, where Lizard’s monster plant takes over the city, and “Rio In Space” where Doctor Octopus captures the Spider CRAWL-R spaceship while on a mission, so Miles gets his mother Rio to help free the ship from those clutches. August 16 premieres “The Goblin and the Geyser”, where Gobby returns with his dino-mech to take over a natural geyser, and “Skeleton Stomp”, where Lizard brings dinosaurs to life in the museum. The following week has “Fool’s Gold”, the first of two episodes in this run where Team Spidey teams with White Tiger, voiced by Kylie Cantrall, to stop Gobby and Rhino from mining in a ringtail’s habitat. In “The Sundae Save”, Trapster traps Spidey, so he must seek help from friends with big ideas. The run ends August 30 with “Adventures in Fossil Hunting” which sees Team Spidey search for Mr. Von Carnegie, who is hunting for fossils in an active volcano, and “Lizard’s Buggy Bonanza”, where Team Spidey and White Tiger team up once again to stop Lizard as he grows bugs to kaiju size all over town.
Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends stars Alkaio Thiele as Peter, Audrey Bennett as Gwen and Jakari Fraser as Miles, who team up with superheroes in lessons of teamwork. The series is produced by Disney Junior and Marvel Studios in association with Atomic Cartoons. Indeed, despite being conceived under the previous iteration of Marvel Animation, Spidey has yet to be brought back under that banner. It is executive produced by Harrison Wilcox and directed by Chris Moreno, who also serves as co-executive producer along with Chris Gilligan and Bart Jennett. Becca Topol is story editor/co-producer, and Steve Grover is supervising producer. If you‘re morbidly curious how the power imbuement happened, that clip is below.
