Paramount+ Releases 'Star Trek: Discovery' Final Season Sneak Peek At San Diego Comic-Con
Think sax-y thoughts, Captain Burnham
Star Trek: Discovery is headed toward its fifth and final season next year, and fans at the Star Trek franchise’s main San Diego Comic-Con panel got to see the first clip, which was later posted to Paramount+'s YouTube channel.
The clip sees Captain Michael Burnham, played by Sonequa Martin Green pursue two mercenary scavengers: Moll, played by The Expanse‘s Eve Harlow, and L’ak, played by The Night Agent's Elias Toufexis by activating her suit’s magnetization onto their starship in the midst of warp speed travel. The duo had just triggered an explosion, sending Burnham hurtling into space. She’s joined by another Starfleet captain, Rayner (Callum Keith Rennie), as the U.S.S. Discovery crew struggles to lock onto her in the warp bubble. This includes Saru, played by Doug Jones and the present Doctor Kovich, played by famed director David Cronenberg, a role held since the third season.
The fact that Moll and L'ak are in possession of an artifact Burnham is seeking, they are most certainly the "others" on the hunt to find "an ancient power whose very existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries", as the season's logline tells. "Dangerous foes who are desperate to claim the prize for themselves and will stop at nothing to get it". There are likely to be more met along the way. The scene can be watched below.
Star Trek: Discovery's final season also sees the returning crew consisting of Anthony Rapp as Paul Stamets, Mary Wiseman as Sylvia Tilly, Wilson Cruz as Dr. Hugh Culber, David Ajala as Cleveland “Book” Booker, and Blu del Barrio as Adira. It was part of the initial class of original programming when the service launched as CBS All Access. It subsequently led the renaissance of Star Trek on television, or at least the stage of television evolution in 2017. The series and streamer released a look ahead as well. With Lower Decks starting in September, and the abandonment of Prodigy meaning the "Winter 2023" run was aborted, it's possible that the most movement Discovery will do is move closer inside the 2024 side of the winter window Prodigy was meant to occupy.
