'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Recruits Sandro Rosta
Rosta will star as the Paramount+ series’s sixth cadet
A sixth main cadet has been found on the roster of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. He’ll be played by Sandro Rosta when production on the Paramount+ series begins later this month in Toronto.
Rosta is a recent graduate of the Oxford School of Drama. He recently made his professional debut in the Hampstead Theatre production of The Harmony Test. While in school, his starring productions at Jermyn Street Theatre included Romeo & Juliet, The Cherry Orchard, and The Watsons.
It is unclear why this is coming out three weeks after the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel segment, where the casting of classmates played by Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané, and Zoë Steiner were confirmed, and the casting of reprising series regulars Tig Notaro as Jett Reno and Robert Picardo as The Doctor, and guest stars Oded Fehr and Mary Wiseman as Admiral Charles Vance and Sylvia Tilly were first announced, but it’s happened. Like his fellow cadets, the instructor played by Gina Yashere, the captain and chancellor played by Holly Hunter, and the villain played by Paul Giamatti, Rosta’s character name is unknown.
Rosta posted on Instagram a screenshot of Deadline’s coverage to caption with his gratitude “I can’t tell you how excited I am to join the Star Trek family and stand alongside my fellow cadets @georgeghawkins @bellashepard @zoesteiner@team_karim & @lilkerriceb - not to mention the formidable Holly Hunter, Paul Giamatti and ALL cast/crew who contribute to the magic of this show💫 If you know me, you know how much I’m freaking out rn… Here’s to exploring strange new worlds; seeking out new life and new civilizations, and boldly going where no one has gone before!!🥂🖖🏽”
According to the logline the cadet sextet will “come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.” Alex Kurtzman, who has been a major producer of much of this streaming era of Star Trek, and Noga Landau serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Gaia Violo executive produces with them and writes the premiere. Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa, and John Weber also executive produce. The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.
