'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed For Season 2; Tatiana Maslany Guest Stars In Season 1
Paramount+ revealed at New York Comic-Con that they’re cool for more school
Paramount+ is officially enrolling for a second term at Starfleet Academy before starting its first. The streamer has renewed its newest Star Trek series for that second season just as the first wraps filming.
The announcement was made at New York Comic-Con’s Star Trek Universe panel, during its own phase with only star Robert Picardo, who plays The Doctor, on hand in person. That’s because he came with a video from set featuring franchise shepherd Alex Kurtzman and the starring cast of academy cadets: Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, and Zoë Steiner. They had revealed they had just wrapped, and Kurtzman announced the season 2 renewal to them as well.
It was also announced that She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany will be guest starring in the first season. But like every character this series introduces, including all six cadets, no name has been revealed. In fact she doesn’t have any character details at all. According to the logline the cadet sextet will “come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.” They and Picardo star with the also-returning Tig Notaro as Jett Reno, the captain and chancellor played by Holly Hunter, and the villain played by Paul Giamatti and guest stars Oded Fehr and Mary Wiseman as Admiral Charles Vance and Sylvia Tilly, as well as the instructor played by Gina Yashere, who is actually recurring.
Kurtzman is co-showrunner with Noga Landau. Gaia Violo writes the premiere and executive produces with them and Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa, and John Weber. The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.
