'Rick And Morty' Renewed For Seasons 11 & 12 By Adult Swim
‘Rick and Morty a hundred years' just got two years of progress added
It turns out episode 101 will not be the end point for Adult Swim’s long-running animated series Rick and Morty. It was announced at the show’s New York Comic-Con panel Thursday afternoon, which served to preview season 8 for the first time before its premiere next year, that the show has been renewed for seasons 11 and 12.
This was the show’s first pickup since the gargantuan 70 episode order in 2018, some months after season 3 concluded, and further solidifies 10-episode seasons after 14s were considered early on. The report also indicates that the 2024 gap year should be its last, saying viewers should be taken through 2029. The New York Comic-Con panel was attended by sole remaining co-creator Dan Harmon, showrunner Scott Marder, and stars Ian Cardoni, who voices Ricks, Harry Belden, voices Mortys, Chris Parnell (Jerrys), Spencer Grammer (Summers), Sarah Chalke (Beths).
“From season one, Rick and Morty set a new standard in adult animation and has shown no signs of stopping,” stated Michael Ouweleen, who is president of Adult Swim. “Dan, Scott and the rest of the immensely talented team behind Rick and Morty are constantly outdoing themselves, and I’ll be joining the millions of fans around the world in looking forward to more adventures in the years to come.”
“Nobody wants a universe without Rick and Morty,” said Harmon in his own statement. “Fortunately, the list of places to go remains infinite.” Added Marder, “I couldn’t be prouder to have taken this baton pass of a lifetime during Rick and Morty’s fourth season and get us to Season 10. Getting to go beyond that now is such a gift I can’t wait to give our fans. Rick and Morty – a hundred years – forever!”
Rick and Morty, which premiered in December 2013, was the #1 comedy across all of cable during seasons three, four, 5 and 6, according to Adult Swim, and its episodes “Pickle Rick and “The Vat of Acid Episode” won Emmy Awards for Outstanding Animated Program. While last year they showed off the cold open for season 7’s premiere “How Poopy Got His Poop Back”, this year they showed a season 8 sneak peek animatic, where Rick tries to rob a ship of people in stasis who have abandoned their homeworld. It was released publicly and can be watched below. Rick and Morty: The Anime, the spinoff that graciously stepped in for the mother show by premiering in August, airs its season finale Thursday night.
