'Invincible Fight Girl' Trailer Trains For Adult Swim And Toonami Divisions; Get Premiere Date
Saturday is fight night on Toonami with this long-awaited series
Ladies and gentlemen, a third Cartoon Network-intended show has officially moved to Adult Swim and it’s Invincible Fight Girl. The network has released the official trailer for the anime-inspired, pro wrestling action series, announcing it will premiere November 2 on Toonami, replacing Rick and Morty: The Anime in the leadoff midnight timeslot. It’ll be a two-episode premiere followed by singles weekly, with next day arrival on Max.
Technically, the move was made official at San Diego Comic-Con, when the series’s early preview debuted as part of Adult Swim’s Night of New livestream, but now we have a date. In a world that revolves entirely around wrestling literally called Wrestling World, a young girl named Andy sets out on a globetrotting journey to pursue her dream of becoming the greatest wrestler of them all. That is much to the dismay of her parents, who prep her to become an accountant, her nightmare career. Enlisting the help of her friend Mikey, an amateur squared circle analyst, and the schemy Craig who is always looking to profit from wrestling, Andy also recruits her Aunt P, a talented but retired former champion who, agrees to train her niece to follow in her footsteps. Becoming “Fight Girl”, Andy faces off against intimidatingly sized competitors in height and muscle, making . Rising through the ranks of the Wrestling World won’t be easy, and Andy will be dealt piledrivers, DDTs, probably some powerbombs too as she learns the craft. The trailer sees Andy enter gyms, fight an eclectic array of opponents, and embraces the callouses in her palm forming from all the combat and training.
Invincible Fight Girl was created by executive producer Juston Gordon-Montgomery. "As Adult Swim has expanded, so have the sorts of titles we can offer audiences. Invincible Fight Girl is an outstanding example of that - it blends engaging storytelling with just incredible animation and direction," said Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen. "This series is a testament to Juston's creativity and talent, with a series that's funny and thrilling, and also super inspiring." Indeed, as previously stated, this is the third series that was initially announced for Cartoon Network, but Adult Swim’s encroachment to a 5 PM start time has allowed them to take on shows for the wider family, specifically Unicorn: Warriors Eternal and My Adventures with Superman, both of which premiered last year. The latter has been renewed for a third season.
When Invincible Fight Girl was unveiled in May 2022, it was announced alongside the movie Driftwood, which was canceled just three months later in the infamous purges. At the time, Sam Register, the President of Cartoon Network Studios & Warner Bros. Animation said “Juston Gordon-Montgomery has put together one of the most charming, aspirational and simply funny ideas for a children’s animated series with Invincible Fight Girl, in which the underdog group of characters are absolutely irresistible.” The voice cast was not announced, but one of the directors, Matthew Bordenave, who goes by MatthewB64 on Twitter (he does not use his name as his display name as of writing), wrote “As someone who grew up on Toonami it feels surreal to direct a series for Toonami. This whole series is a love letter to the things that inspired us.”
