'My Adventures With Superman' Becomes Toonami’s For Season 2
The second season’s trailer was released Tuesday, announcing a May 25 premiere on the Adult Swim block
It’s pretty safe to say that the “coming soon” Adult Swim declared when releasing the sneak peek for My Adventures with Superman season 2 on Superman Day April 19 were accurate. The block has released the season’s trailer and announced that it will premiere Saturday, May 25 at midnight with two episodes, singles thereafter, and next day postings on Max.
Hm, Saturdays at midnight, that’s Toonami’s time! Indeed, while season 1 had Thursday midnight (early Friday) premieres on Adult Swim, with a Friday 7 PM rerun before Saturday midnight on Toonami (with an occasional Acme Night airing), it’s now moving premieres to that Toonami leadoff slot. It is unclear what kind of linear rerun schedule the series will have this season. It succeeds the anime Ninja Kamui, a Williams Street coproduction, in the timeslot. Kamui’s season finale airs this week, May 4, while the two subsequent weeks before Superman comes in will be completely consumed by blowout marathons of the complete season.
The new season promises new enemies and familiar faces, not only with Zod as the ending of the first season teased, or Kara aka Supergirl as the sneak peek likely teased, but formally introduces archnemesis Lex Luthor. As the synopsis tells, “The three best friends face a host of new threats. Powerful foes will emerge from Clark’s alien past, Amanda Waller will take aim at Superman, Lois will grapple with the future, and Jimmy Olsen will spend an unbelievable amount of money. Krypton is coming for our young heroes, and its arrival will test their strength, loyalty and love like never before.”
Lex, voiced by Max Mittelman, did appear in season 1, but small appearances where he went by “Alex”. Now we see his increased presence teaming with Waller, voiced by Debra Wilson, and onstage with Jimmy, voiced by Ishmel Sahid. Jack Quaid continues to voice the big blue Boy Scout, and Alice Lee does for intrepid reporter Lois. Series developer Jake Wyatt is joined by Brendan Clogher, whose credits include Voltron: Legendary Defender and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as co-executive producer and showrunner. Josie Campbell, who has worked on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power serves as co-producer. And of course, studio head Sam Register is an executive producer.
The series, both this and last season, was ordered back over two years ago in May 2021, on the same day as Batman: Caped Crusader. Both series made a blatant pairing for Acme Night. That was until Max (then-HBO branded) dropped Caped Crusader as part of its content massacring. Amazon eventually picked it up for Prime Video. Now, nearly 8 months since My Adventures finished its first season and is now revving up airing its second, unfortunately nothing’s changed for what the public has seen of Batman’s series.
