'Unicorn: Warriors Eternal' Is Premiering In May On Adult Swim
See how else Adult Swim is growing
After nearly three years, Unicorn: Warriors Eternal is ready to make its television debut. The latest series from Primal and Dexter’s Laboratory creator Genndy Tartakovsky will premiere May 4… at midnight on Adult Swim?
This was first revealed on Monday night in an on-air promo that was then cut down from circulation because it was too early. The official reveal came on Wednesday morning. Indeed, a lot of the surprise and confusion comes from that the series was originally announced for Cartoon Network and HBO Max as a major presence of the Sunday night ACME Night block, meant for families to watch together. It does keep the HBO Max aspect of it all, as it will stream next day on the platform like most recent Adult Swim originals and Craig of the Creek.
When ACME Night launched in September 2021, it was intended to incorporate new original series alongside the vast array of movies it would air and has aired. It only really got as far as Aquaman: King of Atlantis and Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses before Warner Bros. Discovery was formed from the merger in April 2022. In August, several projects intended for ACME Night, including Batman: Caped Crusader and several new films from Warner Bros., including Merry Little Batman, The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical, and Did I Do That To The Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story, were dropped from development by HBO Max and are mostly still being shopped, with Caped Crusader being picked up by Amazon for Prime Video. Even Aquaman: King of Atlantis has since been removed from HBO Max. The one program mentioned that could still make it on the block is the yet-to-premiere Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. The trailer for Unicorn: Warriors Eternal can be seen below.
As for Adult Swim itself, it’s going through quite a bit of growth. Not only did it get Unicorn: Warriors Eternal following the successes of Primal and the revival season of Samurai Jack, but it’s also grabbing My Adventures With Superman, which stars Jack Quaid and is the first solo Superman animated series since the DCAU’s ended in 2000. It’s confirmed to premiere later this year. On top of that, the block is gaining the 7 PM hour every day but Sunday as of May 1, because apparently From 6 PM to 8 PM, 68% of Cartoon Network viewers were over the age of 18. That means Cartoon Network will run 13 hours, while Adult Swim runs 11 for most days each week.
Cartoon Network itself still has several shows coming. Hopefully, we’ll hear more about those soon, and break the 15 months and counting drought.
