'Star Wars: Ahsoka' Has Been Given Its Time To Begin
A new spot has revealed which Wednesday in August it will premiere
Star Wars: Ahsoka, the live-action limited series that continues to bridge gaps in the story of the one-time padawan of Anakin Skywalker turned Jedi Knight, has a premiere date on Disney+.
Back in April at Star Wars Celebration Europe, it was announced that the series would premiere in August, and now we know it will be on its fourth Wednesday, August 23. The date was also included in a new TV spot Disney released, called “Begin”. The series logline reads “Set after the fall of the Empire, Star Wars: Ahsoka follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.”, alluding to Admiral Thrawn.
Rosario Dawson stars in the series as Ahsoka Tano, continuing in the role she first played in the second season of The Mandalorian and again in an episode of The Book of Boba Fett. The character was co-created by series co-developer Dave Filoni for Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, and would subsequently appear in the next animated series Star Wars Rebels, whose story ending the character’s further live-action appearances pick up from, including this series, as Eman Esfandi is already confirmed to be playing the long-missing Ezra Bridger in his live-action debut. The series also stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Rebels main characters and Ghost crewmates with Ezra. Other cast includes the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, and reprising their roles from the animated series, David Tennant as the voice of droid Huyang and Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn. Huyang even spoke in the released spot.
Filoni wrote all eight episodes, serving as executive producer with Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. Karen Gilchrist is the co-executive producer. He also directs at least two episodes, with the series’s five other directors being Peter Ramsey, Steph Green, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Patel, and Rick Famuyiwa. As it stands, Ahsoka will have less than one week of overlap with Loki, which premieres Friday, October 6, before Ahsoka’s presumed finale the following Wednesday, October 11.
