'The Casagrandes Movie' Releases On Netflix Next Year
All kinds of fun days become movie nights as it joins the mothership’s animated feature on the streamer
Netflix has acquired the exclusive global rights to The Casagrandes Movie, the feature-length follow-up to the 2019-2022 Nicktoon The Casagrandes, a spin-off of The Loud House.
The announcement came via TheWrap, midway through a puff piece about Netflix’s great reduction in if not full pivot away from in-house feature animation and toward partnerships with other studios, including Nickelodeon Animation Studios. The Casagrandes Movie is directed by series co-developer Miguel Puga and written by Tony Gama-Lobo and Rebecca May, Lalo Alcaraz, and Rosemary Contreras, who were all writers on the series. The film was seemingly accidentally revealed as credits for May and Gama-Lobo, who also worked on Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, in April, upon the announcement of The Really Loud House season 2 and A Really Haunted Loud House, the latter of which premiered at the end of September in time for the Halloween season, while the former was strike-affected. Production on the movie wrapped in November 2023 and the voice cast for the film was not shared.
While the specific plot of the movie is unknown, the The Casagrandes series followed Ronnie Anne Santiago, voiced in the series by Izabella Alvarez, an early love interest of Lincoln Loud’s, She is an adventurous 11-year-old moved with her family, including older brother Bobby, who is Lori Loud’s boyfriend, away from Royal Woods and to the big city to live with more of her multi-generational Mexican-American family. It ran for 70 half hours amounting to 112 episode segments.
As explored when Netflix rescued fellow Nicktoon Star Trek: Prodigy after Paramount+ notoriously dropped it, Nickelodeon has ended up making several Netflix originals, with series including Pinky Malinky, Glitch Techs, and Sharkdog. While the live-action Loud House movies are on Paramount+, The Casagrandes joins 2021’s The Loud House Movie, which was sold to Netflix alongside Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie. Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling and Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus also reside there. The Casagrandes Movie isn’t the only Nickelodeon movie Netflix will be releasing next year, as they also have Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie. TheWrap also seems to confirm that three SpongeBob SquarePants spin-off movies announced for Paramount+ in February 2022 are now headed for Netflix as well. Unless there are somehow two sets of spin-off movies being made, but that seems highly unlikely.
