'The Penguin' Is Ready For The Best San Diego Comic-Con Of All Crime
The newly-minted HBO original series from Matt Reeves premieres in September
Fresh off the announcement that the The Penguin limited series starring Colin Farrell would become an HBO Original instead of Max (while still streaming on Max), its plans for San Diego Comic-Con from Thursday, July 25 to Saturday, July 27 also came in. This is ahead of the series’s premiere in September.
Gotham’s famed Iceberg Lounge will be recreated, with the presence of a Gotham Ice Truck. The series is also getting a Hall H panel on the Saturday at 4:45pm. Farrell himself will not be physically attending but will have some sort of remote presence. The stars attending in person include Cristin Milioti (Sofia Falcone), Rhenzy Feliz (Victor Aguilar), executive producers Matt Reeves and Dylan Clark, and showrunner and executive producer Lauren LeFranc. The official trailer for the series will be released during the panel moderated by Josh Horowitz, who is host of the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
That night and the night before (Friday, July 26) Max partners with Giant Spoon to transform the Bloom Nightclub into Gotham’s famed Iceberg Lounge. The immersive experience will see attendees enter the “Iceberg Descent” immersive experience created in partnership with BUCK and VT Pro Design, and navigate through the wreckage left by The Riddler at the end of Reeves’ The Batman film to arrive at the party deeper within. Fans can register for an exclusive invitation on 1iota.com to the nightclub, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. HBO is also teaming with Map 360 collective and local San Diego food places to serve up specialty cocktails, swag and chances to attend The Iceberg Lounge from Thursday to Saturday. The Gotham Ice Truck, which will be in the Gaslamp district, will serve up free Slush Puppies with cups containing a QR code with a chance to be invited to the lounge.
“We are incredibly excited to tap into the rich and passionate fanbase in San Diego this year by introducing them to our new series, The Penguin,” said Pia Barlow, the Executive Vice President of Originals Marketing at HBO and Max. “With our in-world activations, fans will have the chance to engross themselves in the underground world of Oz Cobbs’s Gotham, picking up where we left off in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, as we look to generate excitement for the series premiering this September.”
